cover your butts today

all of you in central and north La., Ms., and Al.  had better pay attention to the weather and cover your butts and everything else today.  this looks like a really major storm system moving east northeast  all day today.

    According to some recent studies, the two areas where your homes are most likely to be hit by a tornado are eastern Oklahoma, and central Mississippi.
    Having lived in northeast Mizzipy, I can attest to spending many nights watching the sky while my family tried to sleep. And watching funnel clouds pass over without touching down. Scary, scary, scary.

    Scary? Yes. Terrifying is more descriptive if you're in a travel trailer with a tornado looming. I spent 2 years from 2010 to 2012 living in a travel trailer 5 nights a week while doing a job in MS and I know exactly how you felt. I was parked near Jackson, MS on the NE end of Barnett Reservoir in Goshen Springs Campground. The wind would really howl right up the reservoir to where that campground is located. Several times during the nights I thought my trailer was going to end up in Tennessee. Rather than taking a chance on taking a flight in the trailer I would get up and head to the highway bridge at the intersection at hwy 43 and hwy 25 and wait it out underneath it. I know highway bridges are not the best place to be in a storm but anything is better than being in a travel trailer during a tornado. 

    It seems to never rain vertically in MS there's always a howling wind with lightning and thunder for the least of storms and if you're in an RV it sounds twice or three times as bad as being in a house.

    Smitty, it was bad enough in a brick ranch on a slab; with nowhere to hide but the bathtub. In an aluminum tornado magnet? No thank'ee.

    I thought that was a reference to heads and butts played on Easter eggs and I figured with the scarcity of eggs it might be a another tradition to fade away.That said prayers asked that no one be additionally impacted by severe storms while we all battle the threat of a disease storm.

    We got a big thunderstorm about 2:30 last night. Wind advisor today. Thankfully no damage here

    We had 65 to 70 MPH winds, most of the day here in South Jersey. Heavy rains also. Sun popped out about 15 minutes ago. Winds finally calmed down, but we are under tornado watch until 6pm

    I drove up to check on the house today and it was odd, along Highway 17 most all the drive was clear no signs of any damage and every so often a section anywhere from 30 feet to 150 yards would show signs of severe wind damage (roof/siding damage, fences down, trees uprooted, tree debris in road, Etc. ) but than it would be clear again, luckily we had a small piece of siding pull off that will take me a few minutes to replace and that was the extent of the damage for us. Prayers for all those dealing with it especially during this pandemic.
