Well that sure woke me up

Hail storm, a big one just hit.  The hail was the size of a large marble and covered my porch in about 1" of it.  What awoke me was the impact of the hail on the skylight in the kitchen 40 feet away from my bedroom, I thought it was going to bust.  Wow seeing mother nature in action is awe inspiring.  I suppose getting back to sleep soon will be impossible, the lightening lightning is flashing across the sky like mad.

      Tuesday night we caught the edge but still had hail and high  wind tonight  wed.  we were about the same it split us but most went north or south we  caught the edge again
    so far just a lot of rain so lucky in that sense . Macie one of do does not like the thunder at all  we did have a lot of it

    When we moved to Colorado, no one mentioned they were the hail champions of the world.  When they break out snow plows in July to clear the roads, that is SERIOUS hail.

    Absolutely hate hail. 15 years ago we needed a new roof and decided to spend the extra bucks and go with metal shingles. They looked like asphalt shingles but were interlocking metal with a lifetime warranty. With all the trees we have  asphalt shingles only last about 15 years so go metal and never worry about it again. They worked well for about 5 years and then were destroyed by a hail storm. Some of the hail was silver dollar sized and bent the shingles where they locked together destroying any ability to remain water tight. The insurance company said they had never paid off before on hail destroying a metal shingled roof before. Used the settlement check to put on a 50 year asphalt roof. Figure it will last less than half that but if damaged asphalt can be repaired unlike metal shingles. I have seen vehicles with extreme hail damage, like windows shattered and roofs and hoods looking like a monkey with a ball peen hammer went nuts on the vehicle. Mother nature ain't nobody to take for granted. Bob

    Don't like Ohio weather? Stick around 10 minutes and it will change.
    The Tuesday night storm pounded us. 70 mph winds and small hail but lots of it. The lightning show was awe inspiring. I swear the sky stayed lit up for 30 minutes straight during the heaviest part of the storm. A tornado touched down in our county, EF-1 they are saying, but far enough from me.  Unfortunately another EF-1 hit my brother's woods and uprooted a huge maple and a few others. 
    Go figure, this morning it's snowing.

    We had two rain/ hail storms, since yesterday evening. One around 5pm, and another about midnight. Heavy rain, pounding hail and lots of Lightning and Thunder. Kept waiting for the dog to join me on the bed. Surprised he didnt come in.

    How often do livestock, pets and wild animals get hurt/killed by the large hail? We don't get hail like that here in NW Oregon.

    I don't know about deaths but my chickens were freaking out with the hail hammering their metal roof about 6" over their roosting heads.  The cats were nowhere to be found until full daylight this morning.  As I watched the hail pour out of the sky last night I thought about all the wild animals that had to endure it.

    We were also hit with some fairly large hail along with some high winds and lightening Tuesday evening.  I had one of my cars parked outside the garage.  Was doing some garage clean up that day and didn't think leaving it out for one night would be a big deal.   Looked it over pretty good and did not see any damage.

    I did however find a very large tree down that was blown over roots and all up on the hill where I hunt.  The tree missed my hunting shack by about a foot and a half!!  Being a very heavily wooded area with tall red pine and poplar, I was happy the tree (poplar) made it down without getting caught up into other trees close by!

    Weld County, Colorado. Totally replaced my roof last year due to hail, as did most others in the area. A few years ago, a hail-stone the size of a football penetrated the roof of a neighbor's house, went through the upstairs floor, through the downstairs ceiling and landed in the living room.

    It came through here around 4 pm yesterday. Coated the ground with pencil eraser size hail. My stepdaughter and her girl  drove in just as it hit. We went to the basement for about 20 minutes until the worst wind passed.
