House wren landed on my knee this morning!!
I often sit on my front porch in the mornings for some quiet time to thank the Lord for all He has done for me. I also practice my hunting skills. I'm a still hunter so I often sit on my porch and try and see everything going on around me by only moving my eyes. After a few minutes a house wren landed on my porch railing, hopped down to my right knee, sat for a few seconds, hopped to my left knee than hopped over to the chair beside me. While it sat on the chair another house wren flew in and landed beside the first wren. (Mate??) The first wren hopped back to my left knee, than both flew off.
Birds landing on me when I'm hunting is pretty routine stuff because my favorite "blind" are two small 8 to 10 foot tall pine trees that touch each other. I shove my camp chair in between these pine trees than lay a piece of camo burlap over me, pinning it down with my feet, pulling it up across my knees, up to mid chest. My rifle lays on the arms of my chair on top of the burlap. At that point I try and become totally motionless. Birds land in these two little pines all morning long, flitter back and forth between them, often landing on my shoulders or head. These birds are usually one of several varieties of field sparrows. The best one was when a bird landed on my head. It then hopped down onto my hat bill, wrapped its two front (Nails??) around my hat bills edge, then bent his head over the hat bill and looked at me with his head upside down. He than raised his head, about 5 secs later looked over the edge of my hat bill again. It was kind of like "That is one butt ugly tree!!"
It is things like this that I love so much about hunting!!

ive been watching a couple feed their three babies for a couple of weeks now. i have two barn cats that are also watching. they know that those babies will try to fly soon and one will probably fall to the ground on its first try. so they, like me, set and wait. 0 -

Probably a omen/sign from the Lord. Every things going to be all right in these sad times. Many times in the Adirondack Mountains while deer hunting I have shared a apple with chipmunk or red squirrel. I have even had them go in my open pack three feet away and steal a Snicker bar. 0 -
Sounds like a good morning!
Years ago when I worked for the Forest Circus I was out by myself doing my thing and sat down on a log in a little clearing to eat my sandwich. Pretty soon a cow elk and her two calves showed up so I just sat there real still (kinda like a bump on a log)!
Before long I had both of those calves practically in my lap and momma keepin' a real close eye on what the youngsters were doing. One of them eventually licked my pants leg and I laughed a bit a spooked 'em off.
Those kind of things certainly make for a great memory!0 -
Yes, I have many great memories in the outdoors . I sit and watch the amazing beauty all around me. Whether I am hiking, hunting or fishing, the outdoors is where I feel closest to the Lord. I truly feel sorry for those who are blind to the beauty that surrounds them. 0 -
I've had the same "close encounters of the beaked kind" while varmint hunting in my ghillie suit. I used to drape a tanned rabbit skin over my electronic caller until one evening when a barn owl swooped in and took it away. More recently, I sit and watch my hummie birds and if I'm still enough, they'll come right up to within inches of my face just to check out that strange lump sitting there. Edit to add: pic of me in my ghillie suit
