washer agitates on wash but not on rinse
Too late to call repair man today but maybe somebody here has a clue why a washer would agitate when washing but not on the rinse cycle?

It's an older model, it seems to be doing everything it should except agitate during rinse. We had a repair man out a not long ago because it wouldn't spin or drain and he replaced the agitator cog things while he was at it. 0 -

The 'wig-Wag' (thing that makes it agitate) either works, or not.
If it agitates in wash cycle I believe the wig wag is good
The transmission is good, or you would be full spin in the wash cycle
Without looking at it,I'd say you lost a contactor finger in the timer that feeds power to the wig-wag on rinse cycle.
Timers/control board are pricey. On older machines, just not worth the repair bill. Take Momma shopping.0 -
I was hoping it would have been the lid lock- which is an easy fix, but since it spins and drains, I think montanajoe is right about the timer being bad. 0 -
+1 the control box/timer. Make sure all the wires are hooked up, maybe a loose connection. I would check the price of the timer - google can sometimes find great prices on older stuff. 0 -
the wig wag is actually the gear shift for the transmission . I agree that it sounds like a timer issue ,as said ,check your wiring coneections 0 -

I had a washer control cover off once. There was series upon series of contacts activated by one single axle coming off the timer. A single contact may have contact with another until the timer turns a disc that bends it to contact another. On mine it seems one may have gotten hot and seized to another contact. I had to spin the timer a few times to see it. Once I did, I just separated them and scraped some gunk off and got lucky. This was a while back, late 90's 0 -

Repair man came, never saw him in person, left the back door unlocked.
Bad timer, the part is still available. Gonna be a little pricey but it's good old machine, at least 16 years old. They don't make 'em like that any more and I'm sure it will last longer than any household type replacement we could find.

Just about anything these days is controlled by a computer chip. Just like with your computer, modem, phone, etc. the first thing to do when there is a problem, is to unplug or otherwise disconnect the power and leave it off. Don't just turn off the power switch on the unit, totally cut the power to it by unplugging or throwing the breaker. Then after waiting 2 or 3 minutes, turn the power back on and wait, touching nothing else for maybe 5 minutes. I just went through this with a 10year old dishwasher that would do nothing except blink a blue light. Works great now. 0
