Harbor Freight predator motor any good ??
Anyone tried one of these?? My old tiller motor locked up today, 5hp b&s from 1970 . I hate to give up my old tiller, its back when they were made out of iron but I also hate to give $300 for a new motor to put on a 50 year old tiller, Harbor Freight has a 6.5 hp motor for $100 that should almost bolt right up

Just make sure you buy the warranty. A friend didn't and his conked out after about 2 months. They will honor the waranty. Good luck!! 3 -
spend the couple bucks on the warranty they do honor it . one of the things about HF is known for .
my son had a vise that broke he too it back they ask about a warranty he said no , so they sold him one for a few dollars then gave him a replacement for the broke vise same time hard to beat that0 -
I bought a slightly used one for $40 & put it on my log splitter. There was a gas drip. Simple fix... the spring washer was installed incorrectly in the gas valve. It worked great for years but now has rust in the tank, which I'm working on. I'd buy another one. 0 -
I bought a 6.5 Hp to put on my snow blower years back. After a season of hard work the oil sensor went out and it wouldn't run. I just un-hooked the sensor -ran great for several years. Always started in the first few pulls. Then the spark quit - HF doesn't sell parts so I was told to buy the unit on e-bay. $8 for coil, wire and a plug delivered in a few days. This winter the wire on the kill switch broke off. I Gerry rigged a toggle switch in place because I didn't want to take apart the cowling to fix the switch. Works fine. Best $100 I ever spent at HF. Other people have had the oil sensor issue and just unhook it like I did. 0 -
I have bought several of the motors. I put some on roto tillers, pressure washer, trash pump and a air compressor. I have not had a problem with any of them. I guess for the price, I can afford to replace them when and if I do. Don 0 -

I have not had much luck with anything from HF that has moving parts. Putty knives and floor pads are fine. 0 -
i have used them for years. the 10yr old one is getting hard to start, it now takes two pulls after setting all winter. if the motor on your tiller has a gear reduction output shaft, most do and its internal to the engine, your tiller will go a bit faster. you can compensate for this by running the engine slower, it still has plenty of power. 0 -
I used several of the 212cc and as long as you use ethanol free gas and fuel stabilizer they will run forever.I put one on a tiller to replace a worn out 5 HP Briggs and it probably has twice the power. 0 -
As others have said they are worth the $100. I have one on my tiller and I bought one for my Dads tiller. They are Honda clones and I have had excellent service from mine. Strong and smooth running engine. Don 0 -
I bought one on sale for $89.99 and made this contraption to gas the moles in my yard. I have an hour and a half run time on it. It starts on the first pull every time. Not sure about how much power it has but it made the moles stop digging.
