Controversial Topic, I Know.
I believe I have the perfect handgun to put undergound via the 2.5 gal. Military container I have on hand for just such an endeavor. A used Taurus 740 Slim. (SS) in .40 cal. Desicant packs and a sealed "Battle pack," of ammo.
I have plenty of stuff onhand. You can not be too careful, or plan to far ahead.
My other 740 Slim, Blued/FDE has been very trustworthy.

Some archaeologist will find it about two hundred years from now and make a documentary on National Geographic about his primitive weapon find and try to decipher a curios note left behind by some one named Ken talking about the 2020 coronavirus hoax that led to the fall of Trump and America. 3 -
Flame on.
I have several of these containers. I "might" have a MN Carbine sealed in a PVC tube, and a sealed Spam Can, on hand also. I heard vertical insertion via a post hole digger, is the bomb. There might be copious amounts of scrap metal scattered about above ground.
You can not plan too far ahead, or be too careful. Akin to stockpiling essential foods.
Hit me.

I would include plenty of spare parts and mags. Its a Tawrus

My other Taurus 740 Slim has been much more reliable, than any of my 1911's that apparently require tuning in order to function as delivered. (WTH?)
Expected derision. I have a long term game plan and resources to cover it. Do you?
Just suggesting an alternative resource if it becomes necessary. I have other essentials on hand to deal with most everything else. Your view may differ.

I would say don't bother. Why? Simple - you ain't actually scared for the future yet. If you truly thought it was all about to hit the fan, and you might need to dig up a gun someday to have a means of protection.......would you really be stashing a Taurus?
If you were truly afraid, you'd bury a Glock. 😁

Don't you think you should send me map where all these goodies are buried? You know, just in case your advanced age causes you to forget where you put them. Of course I may forget where I put the map. Nevermind I forgot what we were talking about.🤔😁 Bob 3 -
Yeah, but metal detectors and ground radars are your enemy along with gamma/IR ray technology with back scanners. My Glocks are essential arms, because they function, unlike the two 1911's I own.
One of my get home kits, is a Glock 22 in .40 cal, that shares mags with a Kel-Tec Sub 2K. 31 round mags, in a small ballistics cloth MEI Backpack.
I purchased the second 740 Slim based on a Locust Fork, "Going Cheap," heads up. It was a good buy.
I have several Firearms stashed. Not just a Taurus. Pre-planning is key to having what you need in the future if required.

If I had a Taurus 'anything', I'd be prone to burying it in the backyard too. (Yeah, I'm a gun snob. I must say that I wasn't really impressed with my friends Taurus 85 revolver that would lock up after 8 rounds or so. I will admit to shooting a S&W 686 that also locked up. But that was after 3 boxes of factory ammo) 0 -
As I age, I do not see squirreling away things or having a bug-out bag.
If it has gotten so bad that we need to hide things, it is time to hold them so as to kill those that would be taking them.12 -
+1 don, I live in a state that still does face to face sells, the only thing I do is keep these seperate from my "registered" guns that went through an FFL, and I only have two of those, and it is boating season........... 0 -
I can appreciate all, the comments proffered. I expected them, and anticipated them.
I was throwing out my .2 worth, for whatever that is worth.
I have plenty on hand to do the aforementioned Don.
Looking back to WWII, it is never too bad to be prepared for whatever comes.
Inexpensive firearms stashed with ammunition, may be invaluable in the future.
My humble opinion means absolutely nothing.

If you have to bury it, it's time to be using it. 3 -

Expected that. Understand that.
I have plenty on hand. I wish to have a couple on hand, in the worse case scenario.

What’s a controversial topic without a little controversy? 0 -
It is probably a good idea - when building a fence and installing fence posts - to dig one post hole just a little bit deeper.us55840 said:No matter how much scrap metal is scattered around, there is ground penetrating radar that can determine if the ground has been disturbed years in the past.
BTW ... what is your address?

Okay, I'm with you. Layered preparedness - I like it! I would need to bury a lot of them, because I would forget where I put them. A map wouldn't help either, because I wouldn't remember where I put the map. Hahaha! Basically, I would have to be like the squirrels in my yard with acorns - bury guns in enough places that no matter where I dig, I find one.0 -
Yeah. I knew I was pokin' the Bear, Jim.
Not opposed to stirring up dialect. If it is a civil discourse.

Posting about it on the internet kinda takes away from the being a secret, and element of surprise factor,,,ymmv 0 -
Lot of area on my propety, Joe.
Good luck finding anything.
Thanks Frogdog. Cheap stuff stashed, what does it hurt?

Not my style but I will not knock Cheap insurance, which you can recover at anytime if you so desire.

Not my style either Warbirds. (However) What does it hurt to have some inexpensive insurance.
I have plenty to disburse, without feeling it.
Extremely rural, mountainous terrain. Good luck finding anything.
I am not the only Local, thinking likewise. We are all on the same track, as far as preparedness goes.
There will be stuff all over, if needed.
We will take care of our own,

Luckily I now live in an area where every Tom, Dick and Harriet has an arsenal at their fingertips. I'm surrounded by a small army. 0 -
As am I Susie. There are a lot of us prior Military in our Holler. We have a plan and are adhering to it.
Plenty of stuff on hand if it comes to it.
Beyond what we each keep in and around our domicile.
Just attempting to put a "What If," amongst Members here.
Those that do not adhere to what I am speaking of, no worries.

Simply trying to provide some fodder and thought for the general assembly here.
Nothing more.

A few years back I was working on an old barn. Stashed under the floorboards were the remains of a muzzle loader. Just the metal pieces, the wood had rotted away. I wonder if the guy who put it there was thinking the same way you are. 3 -
Hate to think it would come to that, post confiscation, (but) Wouldn't it be nice to have a few things, if indeed these things come to pass?
What does it hurt if you can spare a few odds and ends? (Without missing them.)
Those are my thoughts.
Thinking long haul. Not short term.
