Blue Ammo ?

Interesting. I've never heard anything about it. I wonder what plastic residue in a hot barrel would be like. Not too impressed with the two duds out of what he shot. (I cringed when he pulled one right out of the chamber, and held it close to his face/eye to inspect it, immediately after it failed to go off.)
Agree with him, it has application's for sighting in and practice ammo.
I do not own a .308, I wonder if that is the only caliber it is available in? Do you know ?
Thanks for sharing.

Really interesting.
If it is taking a brass case to Sacrifice to hold the primer, for me it is more of a novelty than anything.
I would love to know the pressure being generated in that plastic case.

Some European armies, have used both wooden and plastic bullet training ammo for years. They have a special muzzle attachment, for their rifles and machine guns. That serves a dual purpose. It shreds the bullet so it won't be dangerous at a distance. And creates enough back pressure to function the firearm.
Shooting this ammo, without the muzzle shreder. Can be very lethal at close ranges. To the unfortunate individual who gets hit buy it. It definitely, would be a close range stopper. A high velocity plastic or wooden bullet, causes a ugly surface wound.0 -
Yeah, a 40 gr. Plastic bullet at "4,000fps," I wouldn't want to get hit with one. I would imagine it would be quite lethal.

I have roughly 1K of the 308 blue rounds...The bullet is 10-12gr not 40gr as stated in the video ...Powder charge is 10-12gr of an unknown powder... Wouldn't fire in a 308 bolt gun...But my FN/FAL loves this round and shoots dead on out to 100 yards...(It will not cycle in a semi auto) with same point of impact as the factory 308 loads... The round will penetrate a water filled milk jug at 100 yards...Lots of fun but really loud! 3 -
Curious Grunt2, what was your main reason/purpose for purchasing 1K rounds of this ammo? Practice? Inexpensive? What has been your experience with "Duds?" Genuinely curious?
Plastic cases?

Interesting training round. I would love to see some penetration tests in various other media just for giggles. It doesn't seem to want to penetrate ballistics gel much.

Part of the reason for use as a military training round- safety distances. FMJ 7.62 NATO has an impact area safety distance of about 4-5 MILES. Well, a lot of European nations just don't have THAT much room to exclude all activities, buildings, etc. And it can be used on an indoor range without needing a huge plate of steel for a backstop. 0 -
Where did you buy it from ????Grunt2 said:I have roughly 1K of the 308 blue rounds...The bullet is 10-12gr not 40gr as stated in the video ...Powder charge is 10-12gr of an unknown powder... Just ordered 150 rounds from some place in Vermont for $36 + shipping. 0 -
4000 fps is a long way from the advertised velocity of 1150 fps.

Czech 7.62x54r "practice ammo" uses a 40grn copper jacket, that leaves the barrel at 3,800-4000fps. Very accurate out to 100yrds, and blows up woodchucks like a hollow point. The jacket flattens out, and imparts all it's energy to what it hits. 0 -
4000 sounded too big to be true. 0 -
Ken...No duds but like I said...they wouldn't fire in an old bolt gun I had...No duds in the FN...The stuff was so cheap I couldn't pass it up...I think I paid around $90 for the K... The bullet is molded with the plastic case and the base of the round is metal... little to no recoil...and I was "Genuinely curious too!" fun stuff...KenK/84Bravo said:Curious Grunt2, what was your main reason/purpose for purchasing 1K rounds of this ammo?
