My guess would be some other overpopulated nation started it.
It is hard to believe that China would deliberately start an epidemic so close to one of their main virology research labs.
It's almost as if some other nation put it there so people would think "Hmmm.....it could have started in that Wuhan lab."
Any overpopulated country would have an interest in cutting down their own numbers. They probably consume a fair portion of the budget and take up land. They probably make the countryside too dangerous. If you leave land lying around, soon they will squat on it and be too expensive to remove. They may be able to live on very little food. Some of them may turn to robbery which makes the countryside or the slums too dangerous. There may not be enough money to develop them into productive workers because the basic services they demand and the costs they impose consume all the tax revenue.

in our country we have given every bum and criminal a boatload of "RIGHTS"....far more than the victims...now some countries simply shoot those that don't follow orders....REMEMBER when china got the Olympics...army went into an industrial zone and moved all the people/workers OUT, and the dozers moved in and flattened everything and built the Birdsnest stadium......we would still be trying to get the diff govts agencies OK here to move a rock 0 -

You could also say it was done because the largest factor in climate change is the exploding population,, in the last week there has been dozens of news articles how all the smog has cleared and the earth clears because of no vehicles and everyone staying home
