    Can you tell if the bolt is fully forward?
    Carefully pry the bolt back at the ejection port...DON'T damage the port...

    Yeah, I'm going to try that with a plastic or wood tool of some kind. Sure don't want to have to remove the forearm and barrel if I can help it.

    .300 blk will chamber in a 556, so I'm surprised the BCG didn't go fully into battery. Good thing the DA didn't tickle off that .300 blk like so many others have done.

    The ID10T DROVE the bolt in, extruding the bullet into the bore, destroying the bolt, splitting the rear of the barrel, and breaking the extractor. I told my friend to put it all in a sack, have the fool pick up his gun, and inform him that he was one of the reasons some people shouldn't even be within 100 feet of a firearm!  I wouldn't offer to put it back together for any price. God help us all, they vote, reproduce, and breathe our air!

    Agree, you story sounds unbelievable, but in all my years spent at many ranges, I have seen some frightening stuff. Your right, encourage him to find another sport.  

    I have had to beat a bolt out with a brass drift before on an acquaintances AR due to an over-pressure situation.
    Removed lower turned upside down and a few good wacks it came out. Fortunately nothing was damaged except the brass.
    He learned a valuable lesson and now crimps all reloads he fires thru any semi auto.

    I hope you get to see this phenomena because I don't see HOW that could happen.  "Splitting the rear of the barrel" doesn't happen easily since that area is designed to contain pressure well in excess of 55K psi. If as stated,  the upper and lower are separated, one can often use a screwdriver or small prybar inserted from the bottom of the upper to lever the bolt back.  Although the 300AAC is typically loaded at a level that compresses the powder I suppose it would be possible to pound the BCG hard enough to force the bullet back into the case with enough force to expand the case jamming it solidly in the chamber.
    I dunno but sounds like something else is going on.

    There was a Show on gun on one of the sporting  channels of  AR manufacturer. They had an example of the  very same thing 5..56 with 300BO fired in  it, the  barrel was split.

    I would like to see the pics of this. 
    Me too..so he'd have had to pivoted the upper from the lower and manually driven the BCG forward with an implement like a hammer?  But then if the BCG wasn't fully in battery he'd not be able to close the upper back to the lower.  The forward assist doesn't have the leverage to splinter anything.  The mechanics of this event are suspicious.  Throwing a flag 

    As I stated, .300 blk will chamber in a 556mm without any need to drive the BCG into battery.

    I didn't have the opportunity to see it before it was taken apart, or get pics of the aftermath. The bullet was extruded out to about 1.25", and had rifling engraved on it, the primer had not been dented, the cartridge case is still in the chamber, and the rear of the barrel is cracked in the locking lug area. I also found it to be unimaginable that he was able to do that much damage. There are dents and scratches all over and inside the upper receiver, indicating that he used some tools (hammer, punch, crowbar?) while really screwing up a pretty nice firearm.

    A split in the rear of the barrel?  Do you mean in the chamber area itself?  If this is the case, it is hard to imagine that happening absent something going boom at least once.  there are pictures of 300 blackout bullets extruded into 5.56 barrels without splitting the chamber.  
    A split chamber would require a lot more than a hammer IMO.

    Sounds to me like he touched one off and the stuck casing is the second round.    I don't see any way he could have hammered on the bolt enough to extrude the bullet out to 1.25".

    That's an engineering feat I would like to see.
