He effectively published the fact that one of our premier naval assets in a forward position was in distress and potentionally of diminished capability. His crew support him, and his motives may have been noble, but it was a significant security breech.
SecNav had a tough decision from a PR standpoint, but no real choice other than the one that was made.

I agree Don. I served and during my service was constantly reminded and tested semi annually on OPSEC and COMSEC.
Crozier is an O-6. IMHO he should face a GCM.0 -
The Readiness Condition of a military unit, in this case a ship, is classified information. If he revealed that he broke the regulation. Whether circumstances dictated that his action was necessary will have to be determined. 0 -

The minute I read the “breaking story” I knew he would be relieved.
This was intentional by him.
He made the choice to pull into Vietnam (where they were exposed).
The last thing I would personally want if I was at sea on that ship is for my family to wake up and read we are all about to die on CNN.
He should have stayed at sea and kept his mouth shut.

Yep no one in his chain of command COC knew of the letter until they heard about it on the news. If I was atop in his COC, I would be furious.SW0320 said:

While his intentions appear to have been good , his lapse of common sense was inexcusable. Relieving him was the right thing to do . Hope he enjoys retirement!

Funny how his loose lips didn't sink the ship but his career... I think dude blew his load too early. I was imagining the deck was covered with seamen keeling over. Had he waited and ran it up the chain it would've been worse. His crew was put before him.

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. I wasn't there, so I couldn't say. I can say this, however. If I were in command, I would do whatever I felt necessary to protect my crew, first and foremost.

I was Westy's driver at the Point, I knew when to keep my mouth shut and I knew the Chain of Command. Just a lowly GI and probably should not comment on this Navy matter. I read the entire letter by Modly and I think he crossed all his T's and dotted all his I's. The Captain is toast. Very Sad. 0 -

Bingo, there is a chain of command for a reason, the media loves to ignore this. He should have known what he was doing would get him fired. The chain of command is what the military is about. Yet the top brass is rewriting the rules of engagement on viral viruses as wespeak yet they are not judged because they are the head. You should never play with mobility with viruses in the military. Just go ask them at Ft. Having a crew love you is good, but it is does not override one's duty to protocol.
That said, Acting Navy Secretary Modly appears to be an idiot. Apparently he specifically called Cozier 'either too naive or stupid' to captain the Roosevelt in a speech to the crew the day after Cozier left the ship. Moldly is a Naval Academy graduate and flew helicopters for the USN for 6 or 7 years. For him speak in such an unprofessional manner clearly demonstrates he is too stupid to be Secretary of the Navy.
He made the right decision in relieving Cozier. He has clouded that decision by a childish outburst in response to the crew's show of support for their captain.
Trump needs to make sure this clown stops acting as SecNav, and the sooner the better, but he should let the decision to relieve Cozier stand.9 -

Glad to hear Modly is gone. That was a completely BS move to say that to Capt. Croziers crew.
Personally, I believe Capt. Crozier was trying to look out for his crew. Perhaps not in the correct manner, but that was his goal.
I am sure his Crew, feels admirably about him. (As I would, if I was assigned under him.)

Modly’s comments were uncalled for and totally unacceptable for someone in his position . Right move removing the captain but then he had to run his mouth! At least he had the guts to apologize and resign when he came to his senses. Never ceases to amaze me how stupid some educated people are🤪
