    Model 1893 Spanish Mauser, probably still in 7x57 Mauser.

    Looks like a Spanish Mauser. I know a guy that has one it was imported and chambered in .308

    The 93's have a squared off bolt face bottom, the 95's are rounded, and that's about the only real difference. The ones imported as ".308Win", are not, and never were. They were 7.62 CETME that Spain came up with for a stopgap to comply with NATO, and loaded to 7x57 working pressures. .308Win working pressures are almost a proof load for these 100+yr old actions. Best case, you get locking lug setback to a point the action won't open. Then it's a fishing weight that looks like a receiver.

    Do I recall a Spanish Mauser official state / military / arsenal sponsored or armory conversion...to _7.62 NATO spec

    FR-7 and FR-8 parkerized refinish with 20" bbl and distinctive prominent flash hider and updated bayonet lug...

    Numbers matched and SER# started with an FR7 and FR8 prefix respectively...

    And correspondingly a "carbine" as opposed to a rifle or short rifle.

    Note: there are two original platforms that were converted and while both were Mauser actions they were not identical receivers and did not start out with interchangeable parts.

    The Spanish and the Chilean Mauser conversions were not done the same. And, they did not replace the barrels on either of them.

    The Spanish conversion was done by re-boring the original 7mm barrel to .30 cal., then they removed some metal off of the rear end of the barrel, re-chambered with a 7.62x51 NATO reamer, and re-installed the barrel. The Chileans, on the other hand, re-bored the barrel to .30 cal., reamed out the rear end of the barrel, soldered in a sleeve, chambered the sleeve with a 7.62x51 NATO reamer and then re-installed the barrel.
