By golly I think I could do it and still walk away

The modern Aircraft carrier has a flight deck of over 1,000 feet long.  I could land my Cessna on one!  The forward speed of the carrier is about 32 MPH creating a very low landing speed when coupled with my forward speed of 65MPH at landing.  I could land on an aircraft carrier, no problem.  Maybe I should contact Trump to get permission since I am unemployed during this crisis, I gots da time.  It seems to me they would have no issues with my offer and give me a hearty good luck on this worthy expenditure of tax dollars.  Does anyone have the phone number of the Naval Chief of Staff handy?

    Shoot, right now the crews are likely so busy sanitizing every nook and cranny of the ships that you could probably land, get some pictures, and take back off without anybody noticing.

    The Nimitz class can probably hit 35 knots without breaking much of a sweat, so 20+ knot head wind, your Cessna could go full  VERTOL.

    aerial sprayer i knew here landed spray plane in top of big cottonwoods and walked away.....called it dead air...couple months before that i walked into the office to see him ..his back was to me and when i looked again the figure of the grim reaper was standing here... i stumbled across the thresh hold and looked up and he was there again in the leather jacket....i stuttered a greeting and we talked about spraying soybeans......one of the few weird chit things i had happen......next spring he flew over a ridge and tried to go under cross country power lines, flipped and burnt up in the wreck....now i have been bedside when 5 have died and never a vision like this  ???????  no explanation...this was about 40 years ago and is as vivid as yesterday

    I was a pretty good stick. But I've always known that I took second fiddle to Navy jocks. Daytime, CAVU with a small sea, maybe I could. But Night and nasty with the low fuel light on? They have my eternal admiration.

    With a 30 knot headwind I would need a reverse landing hook to keep from getting blown off backwards after landing.  :).
    It would require dead calm seas and one heck of a crab to stay lined up with the angled flight deck.

    I know just enough about flying to know how hard it is to land on a carrier . Navy pilots are a cut above the average stick .

    They may be slow, noisy and ugly- but when you REALLY need to land in a tennis court, a helicopter is damned hard to beat!

    Here is a picture of the plane Mark C referred to above that landed on the Midway. It now hangs below the flight deck In at the Midway museum in San Diego.

    Maybe more interesting is that I believe one of our distinguished forum members here flew one of these...


    Was a nice reception aboard that night, but unfortunately we lost to Notre Dame the next day. The volunteers that maintain the Midway were very interesting to talk to. It was a self supporting museum, so this current situation will cause them and many other self supporting orgs some issues.

    I didn't think that was a "U" but couldn't really tell. And AFAIK, that isn't a USAF uniform, either. Of course, when I shop on the local AF base, I see uniforms that are nothing like those I used to wear. No telling what a SpecOps guy would wear, either. Heck, I flew in Vietnamese Tiger Stripe cammies with no patches or ID, so...

    Edit to add: Here's proof! Here is yours truly (lower right) in "sanitized" Tiger Stripes and 20 pounds lighter back in the day.

    Above pic I posted is of Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg. He did 8 years in the Navy Reserve and was direct commissioned. He did serve in Afghanistan. The patch is ISAF not USAF.
