Had a conversation with my Wife last night about the online education. She advised me this state already had it long before this virus came along. So does colleges and universities to get degrees. Thinking the education system is in for a huge change with children doing online education in the future. Each district would have teachers come in a building and do lesson plans for each grade. Just think of the savings not having buses pick them up. The fuel, the maintenance of the buildings, the utility bills. Less teachers, no shortages of teachers.

    The Oregon teachers union put pressure on our Governor, and made her shut the online stuff down. They figured that if the teachers weren't going to teach, then no one should be able too.

    Interesting, so the children are not being taught while this goes on.  Teaching unions here in SC

    Yep, quite a few people have some extra free time, and could put it to good use, but noooooo. So many people took classes before and after work, trying to better their lives with a degree, and our worthless POS Governor, and the political thug of a teachers union put a stop to all of it.

    Oregon will most likely get cut from Title 1 Federal money if the children suffered. Once a few states ago to online it will catch on like fire since there is a huge savings to the taxpayers. Time will tell.

    Another union that seems to be cutting it's own throat.... And I hope they are successful at it. IIRC, Oregon is about 48th in graduation rates, and among the highest in $$/per student... Embarrassing.

      Another hogwash system that gobbles up fed dollars, state dollars, donor dollars faster than Moo Obarry and Jb Prickster can finish off a buffet. The future will be online classes and a lot of higher education facilities will close. The teachers unions are afloat in manure deep as the Marianna's Trench.

    The conversion to online college courses has been underway for several years and it is a very good thing. Not only does it eliminate the high expenses of a brick-mortar institution, but a student doesn't need to "attend" any particular university. He can stay home and take courses from the best professors no matter where they are.

    to do online courses you have to have access to internet, while most large cities do, alot of the rural country does not have access or have reliable internet service, until this problem is solved it can not go nationwide...........

    Online schooling has been around for years. Have a young lady, all but a granddaughter, graduating for high school this spring, she will also be graduating for a local community college with an associate degree. My real grand daughter did the same thing a few years ago. BUTTT  they are both book smart, didn't get that from ole Pap.
