Think that was when he mentioned his granddaughter sitting on his lap looking at remote girl and people jumped all over him for it. I don't think he meant it any weird way but people really took it wrong.

    This saddens me.

I truly consider most of the regular posters here to be like Family or close neighbours...

I have watched a good dozen members who I consider ride or die friends whom I respect get pounded on here on a regular basis - unmercifully - in a misanthropic evil endorphin rush kind of behavior...

There are several prominent members here who strongly dislike me - perhaps even hate me but they don't rabidly attack me...

And the kicker is I respect most of them - because we have been a part of this shared community for so long.

Like Family or a tight group of peers on neighbours we don't always have to get along or agree - but regardless the love and respect should always be there...

Does anyone here really believe that Dave would in some way be inappropriate with his kin - or that how he tried to communicate his feelings came out as a bad optic...

What we come here honesty and strong opinions or expected but this should be one place were we don't tear each other down.

Are we now canceling folk who perhaps failed express themselves eloquently or whose thoughts got lost in translation...

I would trust Dave to supervise my godsons - and I think he would die trying to protect them if it came to that.

I am not perfect or above the fray - I have acted badly here myself.

This leaves a bad taste in my mouth and a sharp pain in my heart.

I too was surprised by the attack . Folks used to be a lot more civil years ago .

So Dave who is like my blood brother who helped me deal with cancer and the ongoing cascade of conditions caused by treatment - Dave who should by rights be dead from cancer - who god kept on this earth for some purpose - Dave who has been our friend and peer for how many years???

Dave who still battles all with a ravaged body (like I do) against all odds is not welcome here???

During a pandemic crisis that isolates him from his friends in close proximity - we take away this outlet / this refuge that has been such an important part of his social and intellectual life...

Words hurt - they cut deep to the heart and into the soul.

    I am beside myself upset.

Glass houses folks - glass houses.

I never seen the thread until it was posted by shootuadeal. IMO, Dave was the kind of guy who wore his heart on his sleeves, and always seemed to honestly care for those around him. However, some times he wasn't able to put his feelings into words, and just spoke how he felt, and sometimes it came out wrong. It happens to all of us at one time or another. I was somewhat surprised at the reaction from some of the members, especially after reading his posts for how many years and knowing how he was, and criticizing him for his effort at trying to put into words, which was not always his strong point, about how it was easier for him to explain what remote girl was, rather than how other people acted.

    What would Nord think.

    How about white clouder.

I could go on but people are probably sick of hearing from me or tuned out already...

It's feels like I just read flowers for Algernon..

I don't believe for one second, that Dave was looking at pictures of remote girl with his GD sitting in his lap. Posting pics of that skank had been verboten here for many years before the forum changed. There were some folks asking about her return, and perhaps pushing the envelope with the new admins, but IIRC the threads were dialogue only.

I do believe he has some family problems ( he posted about his mother being on deaths doorstep), or possibly a new health problem of his own to deal with. I wish him the best and will keep him in my prayers.

I truly hope he comes back, the trigger that caused his leaving can be addressed by those that were WRONG, as they should do.

I find it disheartening that others would attempt, through trolling, demeaning comments and vitriolic interaction to drive off long time contributing Members.

A perfect example is Oakie. A huge loss to these forums in my opinion.

My mom always taught us “ if you cannot say anything good about a person , don’t say nothing at all “

Pretty good advice to live by . It has served me well for the past 60 years or so . I remember a time here when everyone kept a civil tongue in their head .

Mike, my first thought as well, and I've bit my tongue long enough. That was a low blow, and uncalled for.  Surprised and disappointed in the one that cast the first stone, especially when one had been cast the other way a few years back. An apology and correction was made then, I strongly feel one needs to be made here.

Not inclined to share, what I heard behind Oakies withdrawal from the Forums. (Beyond his health issues.)

To me, Dave is one of the most trusted person on this forum.  I know at least two of the people personally who made the comments about Dave.  If I relayed the straight stuff on them, most members would never talk with them again.  One has so many problems with self control that their family life is beyond help.

Some of the members, according to their posts, are on several medications that cause problems with decisions.  Add a keyboard and some become aggressive.  Some just like to gossip.

Dave, Mike and Ken are the people that I want as neighbors, especially when SHTF.

Hope Dave is well.  We miss you Dave.

Oakie and biker Bob paid me a visit at my gun club and got to see my Lexus SUV and a dozen obscure handguns...

We all knew I had stage 4 cancer and they came to see me before the cancer killed me or crippled and disfigured my body.

What exactly was done that caused him to leave the forums???

Dave is a salt of the earth southern gentleman who sometimes has trouble expressing his point - typing and posting it here...

He lives for his grandkids and posted about them constantly.

With oakie and Dave gone we are less of a community than we once were...

Not a one of you knows the reason that Dave is not posting. He has gone times where he did not post in the past and has always returned . Some are making accusations but refuse to name anyone. If you feel the need to accuse people of things, name the people and the crime! Y'all are doing what you claim others have done. Shame. Don

Is his name Dave ? I always figured that the DAV in DAV1965 meant Disabled American Veteran ??......if he is a disable vet that alone deserves a salute of respect from everyone on here plus a little compassion & understanding due to his health problems.

Dave may have left for other reasons.   I use to live on this site as been a member for 19 years as lost a lot of post counts some way.  I check in maybe once a week.  It would have took more than that to run him off.  The way the site has been flip floped with upgrades ran off lots.  If he wants he will post again if not then there have been thousands left through the years.   It use to be a knock down drag out on this site in the early 2000 s compared to now, not much going on.  A lot of members were shown the door and some got to come back.
