I was in Boy Scouts for 6 years, and I loved it. I went on 45 or 50 camp outs. I also went to Camp Bert Adams for two weeks in the summer, a thousand Scouts there from all over the world. I never heard of, or saw anything that indicated one of the men was banging one of the boys. It may have happened but it must have been very rare.
On these multi million dollar suits, all you need is a guy who was in the Scouts 40 years ago, a guy who is broke and who maybe has a screw loose, to remember what Troop he was in and the name of the Scoutmaster. He teams up with a shyster and claims he got raped at Camp Bert Adams in June 1966.
There is no way for him to prove his case but there is no way for the Boy Scouts to disprove it either. In the spirit of MeToo, the deranged Scout gets a million bucks. Well, he gets $666,000, the lawyer gets $333K.0 -
BSA was not destroyed by lawyers per se. BSA was destroyed by leftist DEMOCRAT ideology being forced upon this private organization by leftist DEMOCRAT courts. The organization went bankrupt fighting to maintain what the private organization deemed as their organizational core values; to put it simply.
Since all restrictions were removed for membership to include a members born sex and sexual preferences, this applies to both members as well as adult leaders, many a parents as well as their offspring are not longer interested in joining.

To put this in perspective- there have been over 110,000,000 youth involved in the Boy Scouts since it started in 1910. There have been less than 300 individuals who are part of the class-action suit, with more than 90% of those 300 having been involved in the Boy Scouts more than 30 years ago. Boy Scouting's track record of protecting their youth is better than most school's or church's at this point.
As for what is causing a decline in Scouting? In spite of the knee-jerk negative reaction to allowing everyone to participate in Scouting regardless of gender/sex/whatever, the reality is that there are fewer and fewer people overall who are interested in the outdoors for whatever reason. Having people criticize the Scouts doesn't help. Personally, I think that the world would be a much greater place for us all if everyone would learn and adhere to the Scout Oath and Law and Motto, regardless of who they are.
