Hunting round for 44 mag
I have the single shot 44 mag rifle I bought awhile back. I thinking just a 240gr semi jacketed round will be fine for deer. I use the same style 260 gr bullet in the 454 and it works okay. Thoughts?

Yep, the normal stuff will do just fine. I just use the Winchester white box JSP, and it performs great. Below is an example. I shot a large hog (100 yds) through the font of the chest.....went all the way through the length of the body. I recovered the bullet right under the skin on the rump.

I am a fan of cast bullets.
I cast my own and gas check them myself. When I was hunting Deer I used a handgun about 80% of the time and most of the time I used a S&W 629 Classic 6.5" with a 2x Leupold scope.When I did my part all were 1 shot kills with good penetration. I cast hard 250gr True Keith Type bullets with a Gas Check sized to my gun.If you don't cast these are hard to beat:I am not sure if you reload if not ignore my post

not sure about the 44, but I have used a 357 lever gun the last few years to whitetail hunt here, first year used self defense ammo, while it did a great job killing it left no blood trail, deer took off like I missed, both found dead under 100 yards away as the bullet fragmented and turned the insides to jello, but only one small entrance wound and no outward bleeding. got a box of the hornady ballistic tip hollow points and reloaded 50 to try this year...... 0 -
I have put a .44 jacketed flat point right through a deer with a carbine. The deer didn’t go far, maybe 80 -90 yards. But I picked up some hollow points to load for the next time as that 80 yards seemed further than they make it with muzzle loader.

I was fond of the Hornady 300 gr XTP when I used to hunt with my Ruger Super Redhawk. 3 -
ice-I can relate. Shot probably 20+ deer with my Blackhawk. I use 296 powder, 25 grns., 300 grn. copper H.P. Hornady with Win. primer. Set lead out to outer ring. One shot kill with the exception of one and we got her the next morning. 0 -

A excellent load for 44 Magnum in handgun and carbine is 26 grains of H110 pushing a Hornady 240 grain XTP. Very stout load and very accurate. Don0 -
