Whats a good air rifle?
If I wanted a $500 or less on an air rifle could I get a goof high quality unit?
i really don’t know where to start.

Tough to go wrong with RWS. If you plan to put a scope on a spring piston air rifle, it is vital that you use an airgun specific scope. 0 -
I have about 15 air rifles,mostly old pump ups,but I have several springers and I agree with a RWS.My opinion is a RWS model 34 is best bang for the buck. 3 -
What do you want to do with it, indoor target or maybe outside harvest small game? BB's are cheap, pellets can be expensive. 0 -
If you go with a barrel break spring piston the cheap ones don't always lock up consistently and accuracy suffers. RWS usually does well in this regard. Judy has had a RWS mod 48 side cocker for 25 years and it still accounts for a lot of yard pests every year. And yes you will need an air gun rated scope as the back and forth vibration can destroy a regular riflescope. Bob 3 -

For $500 get a can for your .22LR. But if you're dead set on a air rifle go to Pyramid Air and take a looksee then go to youtube and look up that model. Pyramid Air also has a channel on there.
Now me I picked up a used RWS "Diana" 34 T06 classic for $220. T06 has an adjustable two stage trigger. Just so you know she is a big girl not like the Daisy pumps. The front sight is plastic and it's in the bad spot for folks to use as a cocking handle. I took it off and replaced it with a Air Ventury Muzzle Brake $34.00 (aluminum) before the front sight broke off. Then scoped her with Barska 3-12 X 40 $65.00, Leapers Rail $13.00 (there are two so read carefully otherwise you'll buy two like I did) and Leupold PRW $44.00 to mount the scope. I bought many "cheaper" scope rings that are now collecting dust. Like the saying goes buy the best once, cry once. I also picked up a Barska 3" Sun Shade $15.00 but it had to be trimmed to clear the cam so she could be cocked.
I also picked up a shooting stick since she is kind a heavy and the butt plate is plastic so it's slick. I should've had my gunsmith install a good rubber butt before I trimmed the sun shade. Still am but the wait for the smith is long (one in many counties).

Picked up an RWS Diana 48 last year at a flea market for 60 bucks. Heckuva deal, pretty nice gun, .177 with plenty of power. 0 -
