Mainly if you're young or have a hospital bed with a ventilator.

I'm honestly worried,while my area is really country/rural..I had a double organ transplant 22 yrs ago,and my immune system is suppressed by anti-rejection drugs..making me very likely to have a hard time surviving if contracted ..prayers for all affected.. 3 -

If you think that. you are not paying attention. The mortality rate in Italy is 8%, with men fully 70% of those who have died. The young are dying in numbers as well. 8% is 4 times the mortality of the 1918 swine flu which killed 100 million world wide in 1918-19. 0 -

I also am "Honestly worried." I am 58 and have two of the three listed contributing factors that lead to "Serious" cases. A distressed Heart (badly regurgitating Mitral valve, Arythmia/tachycardia) and Breathing issues/shortness of breath. Add to that Sleep Apnea/Insomnia.
I am also afraid it would not bode well for me, if I were to contract this. I could not sleep, have been doing a lot of thinking and praying - so I got out of bed (around 3am) and wrote up a well thought Last Will and Testament. I figured it would better than nothing until I can get one properly done. Which is high on my list of priorities.
I did not wish to leave my Son and Siblings a mess to deal with, should I pass.

I think there is a lot more to the picture. Bad thoughts of NYC folks being cremated in mass graves. Never thought or gave much thought of something like this happening. Screw the economy they need to get this under control. It still hasn't even began here and the forecast looks like doom. 0 -
I'm not sure that I'd go as far as saying the forecast looks like doom, but I'm definitely on the "worried" train. One encouraging sign I noticed Friday afternoon.....I drove to grab some takeout from a small local restaurant (we're trying to balance taking precautions with supporting our local businesses) and to put some gas in my wife's car......it looked like a ghost town around town. I'm glad to see that at least some people locally, are taking this seriously. I personally think we're heading for a quarantine, but I'm almost certain my wife will still have to go to work ( although they won't officially tell her yes or no, I'm thinking she is an essential worker) and I'm not 100% sure with my line of profession. I'm guessing I wouldn't be heading to work (liquor supplier), as I'm non-essential, but I am in Wisconsin, so you never know. Haha.

He Dog those were the figures that were being reported but the %s being reported are much lower now. The figures in Italy are still way to high. Italy is taking a major hit. I'm very curious as to why Italy is getting hit so much harder than other countries. 0 -

The mortality rate in Italy of resolved cases (cured or dead) is currently running at 44%.
This is down from a few days ago, as the most vulnerable are succumbing first.
Italy's death rate as compared to total cases, active and resolved, is currently running at 8.5%, but is also on a downward trend.
The USA stats are interesting and trending in a very positive direction.
Our mortality rate of resolved cases at 65% is huge, but the important stat is that of current active cases, the number of critical vs. mild is almost at zero; 64 out of 19,290.
Some good news, IMO, and I think we can look forward to this trend continuing.0 -

One way in which we are similar to Italy is in our very slow response to the virus. Additionally the CDC went for developing their own test, instead of using the WHO test as did South Korea and many others. The pundits (for what their guesses might be worth) were saying we appeared to be on track to duplicate Italy, and reserves of medical equipment are very low. It appears 100 years between pandemic events is too long for us to retain a cultural memory and stay prepared. As long as the Chinese keep eating bats, we will probably get another memory jolt before another 100 years goes by. In any event, if you are an old fart like many of us you should be worried if not scared. If you are younger, you should still be damn careful. Best wishes to all! 0 -

In Italy, the mortality by gender is mostly men. The most common contributing factor is smoking. 0
