What did it hit on?  A few times I've caught bass on my first cast. What that did was mess up my rythym  and timing for a while. Like getting startled when I want to be calm. Nice fish though. Bet that 4# got a work out.

This earl in the year, i would think that one will pan-fry up wonderfully.

Had a creek running through our place growing up, and spring rainbows always tasted great, regardless of their size.

These are stocked trout. I don’t care for the taste. I usually catch and release.
When I hooked her, she tried to go upstream. If she’d gotten downstream, that 4 lb test line wouldn’t have held.

Never tasted stocked trout, jimdeere.  Our little creek was never stocked, and the biggest I ever pulled out was probably around 20".   Of course that was 50 years ago, and it is highly possible the memory has added an inch or two.  Fish that big always tasted good in the cold water of spring and early summer, but became soft and gamey as the water temperature increased.  With the exception of one summer when food was a wee bit scarce, we usually did not fish after the end of June.

We did not catch and release, but were I to comment on that, I may get labeled 'Vegan PETA Member' again, and I am unsure if my fragile ego could handle it.

Nice fish.  My experience is spring fish generally taste better than fish caught latter in the summer and best fish of all are caught thru the ice.   But then maybe that's because fresh fish in the winter are a treat.

The fast running  small trout streams around here in northern lower Michigan always provide good tasting fish during the hot summer months.  It is my go to after the lakes warm up mid summer.  Most often the sizes are in the "keeper" 8-12" range but occasionally I catch a big one.

My mom's folks were English and I was brought up eating a Devonshire English breakfast quite a bit.  A pan fried trout dusted with flour, salt, pepper in hot butter!   MMM  MMMM  GOOOOOD!

I got a couple of nice filets out of her. I’ve never seen stocked trout that salmon color. Most are a dirty white colored flesh.

Nice fish, indeed!  That color is due to it being a hybrid as per what a biologist told me long ago.  BTW, that must have been a whale of a good fight!

I have always found Brook Trout to have that deep salmon pink flesh color.
