That was a close call, my 2009 Kia Rondo
could have caught on fire!
I drove all the way up to the country to spray Skeeter killer and drop those Skeeter baby killing dunks in the standing water up at the property.
I kept hearing my blinkers clicking but I checked them several times, thought maybe it was on the radio but turned that off still kept hearing that blinker clicking noise. Intermittent sometimes fast like a bad bulb and sometimes slow every so often it stopped doing it.
When I pulled up and unlocked the gate I smelled something funny like burning hair and saw smoke coming out of my headlight/blinker switch handle. Not good.
Shut off the car, figured out how to remove the shroud from the steering column and disconnected the blinkers/headlight quick connect.
Drove home old school using manual turn signal, most folks probably had no clue what I was doing anyway.
Pulled the switch and was going to order a new one but I figured nothing lost taking it apart at this point, 4 screws and voila filthy inside must have been causing a constant short, I cleaned out all the goop, mostly looked like grease and put it all back together, I carefully skinned the insulation on the harness to make sure none of the wires were damaged and taped them back up, re-installed and tested. I think I'm good to go. I'll wait a couople hundred miles before I put the shroud back on just in case.
I have to thank God because it could have burned all my tools up, (That car is my little service vehicle) or I might have had to take it to the dealer and pay more than the cars is worth to fix it. Thanks God

Glad to hear you escaped what could have been a catastrophy mogley! I have been driving a 2008 KIA Sportage 4x4 for the last several years and so far it has been a pretty good car. Only have 105,000 miles on it and the body is holding up almost like new. Hope to get a few more years out of it but just a week ago my BIL sold me his 2007 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4 pickup. He can no longer drive due to health problems and gave me the first heads up. The truck is immaculate with only 80,000 miles and he was a stickler with oil changes and factory recalls. I figure it is just broken in! He was asking 6K and I jumped without any haggling on the deal. Saved quite a bit at the State's DMV as well. No sales tax and an easy lower cost plate transfer!
BIL was retired Air Force Vet and had the custom AF Veteran plate. I just happened to share his same service branch and even got a salute from a cop on my way to the store yesterday!0 -
My Kia has been great a few issues I could resolve, you can't beat a 100K mile warranty, I've got 190K miles on it and I'm hoping to drive it until the wheels fall off!

I know the feeling about drive it til the wheels fall off. I have a 2010 Corolla that has 223,000 plus and counting!! My wife gets mad at me when I say I'm driving my Corolla until one of us is dead!!

You must have not topped of the blinker fluid on a regular basis. 0
