Had to put down my Lab
Not having a good day.
Our 11 year old female black Lab "Kimber" had to be put down. Kimber had become Diabetic this past summer. We had to give her two shots a day, and keep her on a strict diet. A few months ago she became blind, and that became an issue also, but we were dealing with it. This morning she could barely come out of her kennel, and could not walk without assistance. She didn't want to eat, and that along with all the other problems caused me to rush her to the Vet. The Vet just called & told us that she has a tumor on her spleen, that was causing her to bleed internally. The Vet said she didn't think she could survive surgery, so we were left with the only option of having her put down. In my opinion there was no sweeter & loving animal. She will be missed and there is a whole now that needs to be patched...

Tell us something about the first day you met him - something kind or sad or astounding from that first week as you pairbonded...
We would be in your debt sir, if you would provide us the narrative.

Mike, we got Kimber from a friend/coworker whose Lab had a litter of Pups in April of 2010. She would have been 10 next month. She wasn't anything outstanding compared to some Labs I have had or known. She loved her family, and she missed the girls as they all graduated high school & went off to college. She always went ballistic whenever one of them returned home for a visit. Soft fur, kind of short, more English style Lab then the big block head American Labs I have owned. She was fast on her feet, and could run down a chicken if you didn't stop her. She claimed more then one bird over her life span. She loved to swim, and it bothered her that I wouldn't let her get into our pool. As she got older she stuck close to me, and loved riding on my ATV,or just running beside it. She just wanted to be close to us if she could. She will be missed, and I really hated taken her to the Vet, because I had to leave her there until they could examine her. So, we were not there when she was put down. I could have told them to wait till I got there, but it wouldn't have been fair. The fact that I was not there to stroke her muzzle when the went away sits hard on my heart.

Sorry for your loss. We went through this a couple months ago and it is very difficult. Starts getting better after a coup[le weeks. We can now remember the good things our Ellie did without tearing up about the loss. 3 -

Sincere condolences Trinity, losing furry family members is just way too hard, though they are worth the pain. Another will come your way and warm your heart. 0 -
