An old forum member and a damn good friend has passed
Just got a message from Carol that Charlie, NJRETCOP passed away at home on Saturday after a long battle with Cancer.

I always liked the flashing lights and I thought about him recently. They could use a LOT more guys like him in New Jersey! 3 -
I attended several gun shows with him and he visited me at the gunshop and my local range - we shared several meals together...
He made several gun purchases based on my recommendations and hand selections...
He was the first to extend me the opportunity to be a moderator at MC...

Not only a good man and good friend and a damned good LEO in his day IMHO...
He activity sought out my technical opinions and research abilities - treated me as a peer and an expert...
I allowed him to do some shooting with my FN-49 which he greatly enjoyed - and one of my arisaka type 99 naval infantry marked sniper rifles which he also enjoyed - but his assessment of the lack of field effective external adjust ability and low power of the optics garnered some harsh critical remarks and led to a great discussion about variations in sniper optics quality and power and field of view and mounting position - the different philosophically divergent uses and deployment of such glassed guns amongst the various nations most prominent in conflict and war over the last 134 years / since 1886 to present...
He took me and my father to lunch in a cop / Leo bar on one occasion and we had beers and pub fair at a VFW on another occasion.
Meeting up with him at shows was always a positive event.
And my father having been on the job so to speak as an MP generated some interesting dialog and story telling for me to observe...
He gave my dad a small pewter hat pin representing folded handcuffs - a pewter pin representation of the MP crossed pistols - a nice handcuff key...
A small gesture that meant a lot to my father . Who still wears the pins and carries the key.
He to my knowledge always treated me with respect and insisted I was an expert in my field...
NJRETCOP - Charlie was one of the good men - one of the brotherhood - one of the brethren - worth accolades and remembrance.
