Scope for Hornet, used scope prices
I was browsing the used scopes listings. Man, some of these folks are proud of their items, of course there is no bids on their listings. Asking 90% plus of new price on a used scope doesn't seem like they want to actually sell it.
Anyway, I'm going to line the iron sight up on the .22 Hornet but I'll scope it eventually as my eyes sure aren't going to get any younger. Given the uses this chambering has my thoughts are an adjustable objective lens scope would get the most out of the rifle. Any thoughts and/or recommendation on that?
I have a few 100 yard parallax scope here I could mount on it. But given I'll want precise shooting at closer distances that seems to far. Then again it's a 200 yard capable rifle and a 50 yard parallax seems to close. To me the answer is an AO. But which one. It doesn't need 1000 yard glass as it's only a 200 yard rifle. But it needs good glass for what it will do.

Remembering you get what you pay for, check the Vortex Crossfire ll series. Pretty good glass for the bucks. 4-12x40 AO for less than 200 here on GB. Bob 0 -

Come on now, you just pulled down several large on poker! My FFL guy loves the Hornet and he uses the Leupolds, and one has the high end Burris. He knocks squirrels out of trees at a good distance with them. NO AO for him though it seems to fit him without it. 0 -
I would look for a Burris or Leupold.Either a fixed 6x or a 4-12x if you think you meed the magnification.

I have never had luck with used optics unless I knew the seller personally. There can be so much wrong with optics that is not readily apparent. Tread lightly. There is a reason they are selling it. 0 -
The only thing I will say is that I often remove scopes from rifles and sell them separately cause they usually bring more money that way. Someone will want a rifle but not the scope or the other way around. Of course if I thought something was wrong with an optic I wouldn't sell it in the first place. 0 -
I've had good luck with used optics. One of the best buys on them is the Bushnell Elite 4200 line. 0 -
I have been purchasing quite a few of the new Leupold Freedom scopes. They replaced the older VX II line. The glass is excellent, and this one focuses from 10 yards to infinity. It also has a fine duplex that would be great for small targets.
