Kiln guns - 8 and 10 gauge shotguns firing specialized slugs to remove slag and concretions and such from machinery / industrial sight applications...

Maybe ostrich or emu or shoe bill...

Would seem to be a valid option to halt a bear attack...

I don't know anyone who has ever used an 8 gauge punt gun style to pull down whole formations of ducks or geese and am uncertain the practice is legal...

As usual, Mrmike is correct. 8 gauges are still made for the steel mills etc.
I have an old original C.S. Shattuck 8 gauge Damascus barrel single shot. It's quite a cannon and I haven't fired it. about a 36" barrel and every bit of 12 pounds. Nor do I have any intention of firing it!
I also have a 4 gauge cartridge punt gun I've posted pictures of here sometime back, along with the 4 gauges big brother! A 2 gauge Brass Barrel muzzle loading punt gun!!
Nope, no intention of firing any of them

If I recall correctly one of the gun writers for Field and Stream or Guns and Ammo did a story on this back in the early 70’s . Took him forever to source the components to shoot / reload his as the industry was very secretive /reluctant to release anything to the public . He finally got it up and shooting and described the experience as one he was not anxious to repeat

I knew a boilermaker who told about using an 8 ga. to knock clinkers off the inside of boilers. He said hearing protection was crucial.

I worked at a hydrated lime plant back in the seventies. The had three horizontal rotary kilns. As the stone was burned, it would build up a ring in the kiln, interfering the flow.
Two guys would take an 8 gauge cannon and shoot out the ring. One would feed and close the breach and the other would fire. These guys could fire a round per second. They would shoot cases and cases of slugs. It was deafening. I wish I could have salvaged the lead from just one session.

I have a box of these stashed away - as well as some loose singles and a salesman sample cutaway version with a clear plastic oval window allowing you to see the constituent elements and internal architecture...

one third of the internal space is occupied by a solid steel cylinder with flat top and bottom...

I have an assortment of 8 gauge / 8 bore European paper hull empties (eley - kynoch - nobel - etc...)

Several manufacturers, I believe RMC was one who machined brass carts in 2, 4, & 8 gage. They were very pricy but could be loaded many times over. Several articles have been written of people who own such cannons and actually shoot them. One guy actually fired his 2 gage and the gun weighed around 30 lbs.
