We have been headed in that direction for some time for years I have heard and read our money has so many germs and most all of it has drug residue on it . which is probably true
however our Uncle  Sam wants to know where and who has money no way to collect tax or track movement when cash is used
when cash is ban or pushed out completely think of the tax that will get collected off every transaction .
drug money,  hookers , and  private sale of any item  too name a few would be more apt to get busted . like all things  I am sure they will come up with a way to make a transaction under the table ( LOL )

flip side  honestly I very seldom have more than 50.00 cash its most days its like 10.00 just to easy to use a CC and get cash back when you pay the bill every month .  direct deposit started me on it  credit union never gave out cash had to use the ATM's and most charged to get my money , s
do I like it not really but it is what it is

Only carry $50 cash?  Wow, that ain't much when a good deal comes along.
Nothing beats CASH for a good deal on a firearm or anything else for that matter when doing a personal transaction.
I normally carry a minimum of $500 and often $2,500.

during garage sale season ( nice weather here in Oh. )  I do carry more .
like you stated never know when a good deal will pop up . and in cases like that cash is a good friend to have along
I worked with a fellow for many years he carried a dime yep  just a dime all his wife would allow him and he said if he did not have any money on him the temptation to even buy anything was not there
at the time the pay phones  in his town one of the last to charge a dime  ( most were a quarter at the time ) to call home .
not sure what happened after cell phones come along maybe his wife took his dime LOL

Credit is convenient, cash is anonymous. Credit is not super sanitary either. Who wipes down the keypad or screen before using their credit card? How many germs are in the slot where a card is inserted? Perhaps the new smart chip and phone tech that is touchless  will become more prevalent. However they need to work on security a bit more for those options. Bob

Looks like paper money is going to be banned if there is a pandemic here in The USA.

I Usually carry 50-100 in cash.  I also have sufficient cash at home to carry me thru several months of the banks being closed or inaccessible.  I’m only giving up 1-2% interest but the liquidity is worth it.

Most people don’t carry cash so CC / debit card is their answer.  And - in order to have cash, you have to have cash available and most people don’t.  They depend on credit for their day to day needs and wants.
