I hate our voting system in Washington. Hate that we cannot go to a polling place if we want.

Primaries are a party function. If one is not a member of the party, what right does he have in participating in that party’s events?

Don I think you should be able to vote for the person, not the party, I have never been a believer in straight party ticket. I think that is the biggest problem in todays politics, no one is willing to vote against their party, or step over party lines........

In the general election, which is a Constitutionally directed event, you can vote for whomever you want, hillbille.  Primaries are nothing more than political parties deciding who they want to represent them in the general.  There is no Constitutional mandate to have them at all.

The parties used to see value in gaining independent voters.  They both set themselves back this election cycle in that regard. I can't fathom how they think this is a good idea.

My guess is that they do not want the opposition party to come in a skew the results.  It is a smart choice, IMO, particularly when the opposition is running an uncontested incumbent.  If half the voters in a Democrat primary had no intention of voting Democrat in November, the party would not receive any valuable information from the breakdown of the vote.
