Friday Night.....Iron City....Michael Jackson Tribute Band....5 Long Island Iced Teas... (picture)
Ok....so, just to keep everyone posted on the nonsense that is my life.....I'll share what I did this weekend.
Me, My Aunt (who is the same age as me), a cousin, my brother, a high school friend and two members of his family met at Iron City for dinner and a Michael Jackson Tribute band. Ohhhhh I know what some of you are thinking....."I'd never EVER attend such nonsense"....and I just have to say you are missing out on some of the best fun ever....trust me.
Ok, so I drove myself down town and found the place just in time to get a PRIMO parking spot (worthy of a little dance by the car as I walked toward the door.) My brother arrives almost at the same time and we tip the guy standing across the street who pointed out another AWESOME parking spot.....tonight is OUR night for sure.
We get in and get a table, weren't sure when the rest of our group would get there....but the place was filling up and it was the only table available at the time. We order drinks and wait a bit.....eventually order dinner and four more of our people walk in. The table will not seat all of us, but they see the banquet table is free.....so, we grab our silverware, beverages and head over to the BIG table. The waiter asks if we were told we could do that.....one of our group had asked the hostess and she said it was ok. (He was NOT happy.)
So.....we are sitting at a large table, the remainder of our people come in and we are all having an amazing time just visiting with each other. It takes some time before we flag down a waitress and ask who is taking care of this table because nobody has checked on us. They figure things out and send over an AMAZING guy that makes things a lot more fun.....the first waiter was unhappy before we got there, guy number 2 is a lot better.
Shrimp and grits, a second Long Island for me and everyone is having a ball. The gumbo was excellent according to the guys that got it and the fried green tomatoes were AWESOME. After we ate I thought "I shouldn't, but who's going to stop me".....and ordered a third beverage. By the time we were heading into the concert area we were dancing (badly) and somewhat singing the words to various songs (more badly.)
There is a BAR in the back of the concert area....which is how all concerts should be. Yes, Long Island number 4 before the music started. The lights dim......a familiar tone hits.....and out walks the band in the dark onto the stage.....they are doing a choreographed number when the spotlight comes on and THERE HE WAS......a guy....that looks and sounds just (almost) like Michael Jackson. We are beside ourselves with glee. It might have been the beverages, no kids, a good meal, and the parking magic working on me....but I was having a ball.
My brother goes and gets me ONE MORE drink.....and I'm thinking about if this is a bad decision or not. I still have to get home. I toss all reason to the wind and start screaming out what I believe to be the words to various songs along with the crowd.
Ohhhh...the crowd. It was filled with the BEST of the best as far as people watching goes. Two skinny guys dressed in their own Michael Jackson outfits.....a few little kids with parents, a lot of older white women (I should talk) and a few couples. Maybe, there were 1,000 people there....its hard to tell. There were the two younger guys there trying to hit on any woman that stood still long enough. One of them leaned over close to me and said "I wouldn't normally do all of this, but I've been drinking Yeager." I just laugh and hold my plastic cup up. He looks over at my brother and tells him......."Hold onto THIS one." My brother laughs.
Before the night was over we had belted out so many Michael Jackson songs that our voices were gone. My aunt had a slew of teenagers at her house that had called the police because they said some stranger had walked into her house and was just standing there. So, she was in a hurry to get home.
I got home before midnight. My brother sent me this picture from the night......ha ha ha

I thought that five Long Island Iced Teas was lethal? 0 -
If I had five of the ones from the guys near the stage.....yes, the dinner crew were not trying as hard to impress anyone. 0 -
OK, so you did this Friday night. You did not post this until Sunday afternoon. So did you finally sober up?? Or was this the first time you got out of bed?? Five LIITs OMG, I like to think I can hold my alcohol, but 5 LIITs, oh hell no!! I would be totally whacked!! 0 -
'Tribute" for the country's #1 child molester? 0 -
Not a fan....but I cannot lie that a few of the songs are catchy enough to have a bit of fun with. He died in the way he deserved in my opinion. Still, I'm not going to stop myself from having a little fun on a Friday if that is what my "peeps" found as a group event. I'm certain the next thing we end up doing will be just as odd and surprising.cbxjeff said:'Tribute" for the country's #1 child molester?

Maybe I could deal for my unplayed 1982 Thriller picturedisk? I put it on the E the day he died. First time out of sleeve for pic. 0 -
I agree Locust, and he did have some pretty good music. His personal life disgusts me though. On a somewhat humorous note, I went into the hospital about 5 years ago for minor surgery. The anathesiologist came in after I was prepped and in a happy-go-lucky way told me that he had some great drugs to give me. I knew he was just trying to put me at ease but I was at ease. I asked what it was and asked if that wasn't the drug that killed our countries most famous child molester. Wow did his demeanor change. He said that yes but it was being strictly controlled there. He didn't realize that I was joking. When I woke up after, he came in to check on me and I explained. 0 -
You are a WILD Woman. Good for you Kasey, having some fun.

Sounds like a great time. I had Long Island iced teas one time. Never again. Tasted like tea and I was way over my limit in no time. 0
