Excellent story, I had the privilege of tracking that plane from Okinawa, down the Gulf of Tonkin, threw southeast asia, over and above North Vietnam and back to Okinawa many times and was alway a joy to watch.  We were with the 6922 in the PI.

Amazing  !!!!!...what a plane and what a pilot......thanx.....years ago a 71 was hauled into the Hutchinson KS airport and parked next to the west fence.....the nacelles were empty of engines but the plane was sitting there like out of a scifi movie....i studied it for close to 30 minutes..looked a lot smaller in person than i had imagined...couple of months later they blocked traffic and moved it west to the Cosmosphere for permanent mounting.....if ya get close ya need to stop in and make the tour....had a buddy tell me a story about this plane in the early 70's? ...he was air police at McConnell AFB when one had a hydraulic problem and landed there...all secret at that time and it wasn't till about 25? some years later i knew the rest of the story

I didn't listen but if that isn't the LA Speed story, you need to find it and give that a listen.

So when the Cold War ended, we dropped the Blackbirds? The Russians saved us a lot of money!

Best part was when Regan had them fly over the Korean meeting and give sonic booms every 4 mins.
