Scholastic Clay Target Program
SCTP practice starts monday. Our local club (Grand Blanc Huntsmans) is the practice range for several high school sporting clay and skeet teams. For the last 6 or 7years Judy and I have helped out our Goodrich high school team by providing the ability for them to shoot on Mondays when the club is closed to open shooting. Judy, the smart one, keeps the books and cashiers. I open and close the skeet fields and act as grunt labor. Did I mention Judy was the smart one? Weather for Monday might get to 40 but a chance of rain. Since we will do this most Mondays between now and June the kids and coaches will shoot in conditions from snow to 75 degrees. Most people don't realize that in this day and age there are still shooting sports in a lot of schools. Check for any programs in your area and if possible remember they can probably use some help. Glad to see that you and the "smart one" help out. We have 3 local high school trap teams, but no skeet or s/c teams, although we have 2 skeet fields at our local club. The local club also has a junior winter league for kids up to 18 years old, broken down into age groups. They shoot every Saturday, from the first Sarurday in December thru the end of February. Sure is fun to watch the kids go from knowing nothing about it at the start, to seeing them break a good score consistently. Pretty funny to see some of the smirks the girls give the guys when they beat them too.... 0 -
Yeah, it is kind of fun to watch their progress. We see kids shooting in the high single digits progressing to shoot the occasional 25 or 50 straight on the skeet field. Of course when they do we throw their cap in the air and all the kids shoot at it. If it is still wearable then they wear it with pride. I can probably still out shoot most of them but I'd have to work at it. Dang young eyes and reflexes.😁 Bobtoad67 said:Glad to see that you and the "smart one" help out. That 725 hardly looks like it's been trained proper for breaking targets yet. If you send it to me I'll have Judy train it for you. She trained her Citori pretty good for trap. She is a better trap shooter than I am but I can still beat her at skeet and sporting clays most of the time. As for me I am a couple of models behind cause I shoot a 525 most of the time. Maybe I should look into a 725. After all we know it must be the gun and not me.😁 Bob 0 -
Up here in New York State on the Vermont border, we have several schools that are in this program. A couple of the high schools are all in with fund raising and administrative and teacher support. Both trap and skeet. The kids that my club coaches are supported by the 4 H because the local school got cold feet. One of the schools had sixty-five boys and girls sign up. Another had about forty. The team we support are a combination of 4 H and home schooled. We and 4 H supply everything the kids need to shoot. One of the local girls shot number one in trap for the New York State tournament. Needless to say this all upstate, and not NYC.... 0
