Dog's allergies are no joke....getting worse and worse

We have an English Bulldog named Itty Bitty.....we just call her Bitty or Bitty Girl.    She looked like a potato with legs the day we got her.    We went a few years without any health problems, but when she turned 5 it was like a switch flipped and she started losing her hair in patches.   She rubbed up and down the fireplace mantle daily.   We had her tested and it revealed she was allergic to EVERYTHING.....all grasses, most trees, BEEF, CORN, Potatoes, Flax Seed, other odd vegetables, Fleas, Cockroaches, several other random bugs.   It was incredible that she was alive at all with the list we were given.    

So, we began the hunt for food she could eat.   We ended up with Lamb and rice, some chicken varieties by Nutro because it didn't have anything she was allergic to.    Its amazing how many dog foods have Potatoes, some type of Beef and FLAX SEED in it.   To find anything was very hard.

Forward on to now.....she is 9 years old.....losing her hair again and constantly scratching again.   We have taken her to the vet every few weeks for two types of shots and some pills she takes every day.

I love this dog dearly....she has a personality like no other breed we have ever had.   They are SMART, funny, and bossy.....but this will be my last one.   Its just too sad to see a pet suffer like she does and the constant change in what affects her is too much to stay ahead of.    I think its the Winter Rye grass that has her flaring up right now....but I'm not sure.

    The wifes Bichon’s are that way ,, the food they do the best with is grain free salmon & pea from sams club.. we tried everything we could find and they have been eating this now 2 years without a breakout

    We feed lamb & rice, still have to get the dog a shot every month.

    Check your labels - they don't always advertise "New and Improved"  I would look at cooking/making your own plus perhaps some supplements.  When you are on the same feed for a long time - its very easy to miss some necessary nutriments.

    I had a doggie ten years ago, he was scratching all the time.  Scratched his belly until it bled.
    Took him to the vet, he said it was absolutely not food allergy.  Told us we had to put him on Benadryl,   25 mg, once a day for life.
    That did not sound good to me.  I started making him home made dog food.  I got a big 4 gallon pot.  Put in a pound of dry brown rice and started to boil.  Put in 10 pounds of chicken legs.
    In ten minutes, put in a pound of dried lentils.  After a half hour, put in three pounds of chicken livers.
    Boiled for a total of 45 minutes.  Put the pot in a sink of cold water to cool.  Removed the chicken and removed all the bones.  Once the food cooled down, I added 1/4 cup of linseed oil.  This is good for their coats and helps prevent scratching.

    This turned in to a 25 pound batch of dog food.  All these foods are not allergic to your pretty dog.  
    I put most of the dog food into tupperware and put it in the freezer.
    This food has zero of the nasty chemicals etc. found in commercial dog food.  And of course, Sparky loved it.
    In five days, his scratching stopped.  I was right and doc was wrong, the little guy was allergic to commercial dog food.  My  little dog thrived on this food.  Yes it is a hassle to make, but, one batch would last nearly a month.  It is much cheaper than store bought dog food.
      It was worth it to protect the health of my Little Guy.
    Locust Fork why don't you try a batch of my dog food?  What have you got to lose?

    I agree with others who cook there dogs food. too much chemicals in commercial food. My dogs were same way red bleeding mess.
    Started with any meat i can get mostly left over deer from my own butchering.rice, beans carrots an other veggies.Plus good bone are cooked an give as treats some good oil.
    make a good stew break down in use able containers an freeze, Every day that is given to both with left over croutons. Been 3 years an no one spot of red or bleeding. Their coats are thick an lush. Plus these dogs are outside in kennels all the time. No excess mess in kennel either. no wasted food.

    We have spent hundreds on our granddaughter’s bull dog’s allergies. The vet put him on Royal Canin dog food. He’s also had yeast and ear infections.
    We give him NOTHING but the Royal Canin and a special type treat. No people food.
    He’s in pretty good shape, now.

    I told Larry we were going to have to cook for Bitty if we didn’t see something change when the weather gets warmer.   I worry that she might not get all the vitamins she needs if we cook chicken and rice, so we would have to figure out what else to add if we start this.    

    She is around the expected average life span for this breed.....so I’m looking at the extra time beyond this as a gift.    We’ve started bathing her every week with an anti fungal     I need to get some baby wipes to wipe her down with when she goes outside.    I read somewhere that if they have allergies it helps to wipe their paws and body down to help remove things that might affect them

    Our girl gets a shot at the vets once a month too for licking. She likes to lick her paws.. She doesn’t scratch all that much . Still the best dog I have ever owned.

    Ellie, has bad allergies and wiping here feet after being outside helped.  Food was key also. Try some food she has never had before. We went through few before we found one that she could tolerate.  Apiquil was the best allergy pill for her although they are a bit pricey. I didn't post it up but she passed a few weeks ago. Sad times here at the maalox house.

    You think you won't get vitamins from chicken and rice?  Are you kidding?
    Brown rice is nature's blessing to mankind.  It is loaded with all kinds of B vitamins.  Chicken is also nutritious, loaded with protein.
    Also, the lentils I suggested are loaded with vitamins and fiber, brown rice is also loaded with fiber.

    Now, don't use white rice it is garbage.
