I've read that suicide among middle aged men has skyrocketed. Possibly because in this progressive society, everyone hates us?

People seem to worry a lot about what other people think nowdays.  A bad review from social media puts them in the dumps.  I sure have no answers as I have lost some very close friends to suicide.

    Sorry for your loss

Life is short enough, unless I'm in terrible pain and suffering I'm sticking around until my ticket is punched but I understand the loss of a loved one or personal troubles are enough to drive some folks to the edge.

More prevalent than a person knows. Have  had an uncle, niece and most likely a grandfather succumb to it. Tragic and silent disease.

Have two friends that each lost a son, one at 16 and one at 18, two years apart.  Until then it was always something that happened to other people, then it was our turn to be the other people.  We had all hunted with those boys, it's been several years and it still hurts like hell.

There are more suicides than homicides.

     sorry for the loss  .
what goes on in some peoples mind's  and they show no outward or say anything always hurts us .
as for me  I think if I was  told I was not going to survive and faced a long pain full slow death  like I have seen to many family and friends die over the years from like cancer or Alzheimer  I would consider it  but tell close ones why so they might understand and leave no doubts .
I have lost family , friends and co-workers and so many stories of loved ones from other people some for revenge ( killing the kids or wife or all then themselves ) or lost loves  seem like such a wast of a life and taking innocent kids people  with them is truly terrible .
one reason we really need a lot better mental health treatment places .

Self determination...sad for those left behind, perhaps a relief for those that choose that path.  Not intending to offend others, I just have a different view of suicide, so long as the person doesn't take someone else with them they should be free to chart their own course.   Whether a long term solution to a short term problem or not, it's their choice to make. Selfish sure, it should be selfish, it's their life, they're the one that has to live it.  It's no more selfish then others (relatives, friends) expecting them to hang around living an existence in sadness and depression for their relatives'/friends' selfish needs.  YMMV

Hopefully your friend has found peace.
