Break Front Holster;

Did you ever have/use one?  I know not many carry revolvers anymore,but haven't heard this style mentioned in so long.
I had one like this for my Colt Trooper .357, and loved it.

    I never used one, but a lot of the cops I worked with in Camden used them.  I tried one, but I had already gotten accustomed to a normal thumb-snap holster, and I didn't want to re-learn a different drawing motion.  

    I don't recall seeing the police on Adam-12 using a front-break holster.  I do recall seeing them use the Audley Clamshell holster for a short time.  Now, that was an odd duck, and would never pass muster today.  It was hinged along the rear welt, and popped open when the release was pressed.  The draw was lightning fast, but one problem was that once the gun was drawn, it could not be replaced without using both hands.  The other problem was that the user had to insert his trigger finger inside the revolver's trigger guard to reach the release button.  Fast, but potentially unsafe.

    Clamshell holsters were lightning fast, but that's all they were good for. With the release inside the trigger guard, anything bumped it, and your gun was bouncing off the ground. Some deputies at the range were playing with one to see who could draw and shoot the fastest. The dumbest one tried it with the gun cocked. Hitting the release button, your finger is in front of the trigger, and the weight of the gun dropping into his hand resulted in a .357 hollow point through the middle of his right foot. Right next to him was a sign with the range rules. The first rule said "No Clamshell Holsters".
    When I shot speed steel, I had a saddle maker rework a Safariland holster to a break front for a 7" Longslide 1911 that doubled as my bowling pin gun. Wish I still had it.

    I am pretty sure I saw them on old TV cop shows & Adam-12 would be a good bet or maybe Highway Patrol.

    I used one for years carrying a 1911 plain clothes in the fugitive unit. You can still draw in the usual motion, but it adds the option of a more forward draw if you wish which is faster. A big advantage is that there is nothing for the front sight to get hung up on or drag on.
