.327Fedmag for self defense

Title says it.
I'd like to get opinions about the use of the .327 Federal magnum round as a self-defense round.
It is supposed to carry a little more punch than the .38spl+p, with less perceived recoil.
So, what does GunBroker think?

    I don't see how it would not be a good round. Just a little lighter and faster than a 9mm.

    I haven’t studied it or even given it any thought for a long time, but my general opinion is sometimes cartridge companies creat new cartridges just to prove they can.

    I don’t know if there really is a need to split the difference between 38 & 357 but like I said, I just have an opinion, not necessarily an informed one!

    Anything I don't want to be shot with will be fine as a carry round.

    I'm trying to get out and do a range report on the 327 in a 6 inch black hawk but the one day a week I have available to shoot has decided that rain is real necessary on that day the last few weeks.
    What I can tell you is shooting a Single Six in a 327 in a 4 5/8ths barrel length is that the little 327 has a very NASTY muzzel blast.  The 327 is a higher pressure round than the 357.  I wouldn't hesitate to use the 327 in self defense situation.   If you miss, not to worry, the muzzel blast will either have them laying on the floor screaming with their hands over their ears or sprinting down the street getting as far as they can from you before you pull the trigger again!!

    in a Ruger LCR you get 6 rounds of 327  versus  just 5 rounds in a  38/357

    I have two.
    A Taurus 2" snubby, and an SP101 with a 4.2" barrel.
    I really don't think it's that much more report than a .357, even out of the 2" barrel.
    The really nice thing about it is, I can chamber and shoot .327, .32S&W long, and even .32S&W shorts without an issue.
    I also bought the Henry lever .327 and love it.
    Glad to hear others like it too.
    Federal has come out with a new cartridge for the .327 called "HammerDown"
    Looks promising for a hunting round too.

    For all practical purposes it's the 30 Mauser, (7.62 X 25), with a rim. The Russian's made it all the way from Moscow to Berlin. With 3/4 of their army, armed with the 7.62 X 25. I wouldn't be doubting it's effectiveness, (.327 Fed.), as a personal protection round at all. The only question in my mind, would be the effects of the muzzle blast on your hearing in a confined space. I've had Tinnitus and hearing loss for years, due to muzzle blast. It's not a fun thing.

     Seems they just won't let the old .32 die. I have .38 specials and see no reason to get a .32 mag to replace them. If I wanted more power in a snubby I would go with .357 mag but I don't. I prefer the controllability and reduced muzzle blast and flash of a good .38 spl. round.

    Some folks just have a lot of fun trying to come up with a pistol round that is better than a .38 Special. Others try to beat the .30-06 rifle round.  Both tasks are wasted time.

    smaller bullets need longer barrels to have speed for energy.  these are pretty loud but this round is better than the 32 h and r mag     it is the light and fast vs big and slow , the defense situation is going to be close.

    I've carried a Smith 38 for decades.   I've been thinking of going to the LCR in 327 as it is lighter than my current "air weight" and hold the extra round.   I have an sp101 in 327 and really like the round.  The issue is my 38 has the shrouded hammer so it's slick to draw without hanging up but can also be cocked and fired single action for more accuracy is you need it.  Ruger doesn't offer that option in the LCR.

    They make model that can be fired single action, they just don't make on that has a shrouded hammer (the hammer is bobbed with a grooved flat top) that can still be cocked and fired single action.

    But mine has shorter grips and pocket carries easier than the one I posted.   I've carried it for 25+ years.

    I have carried for years a revolver in .32 H&R .  Other than muzzle blast I see no issue with the .327 Mag. I have no experience with the cartridge so it is hard for me to judge. If the muzzle blast is a concern inside than it can always be loaded with .32 H&R or .32 S&W longs. That may reduce stopping power but frankly stopping power in my opinion depends on where a bad guy is hit.  The .32 cartridges seem to be very accurate. I do very well with my .32 H&R out of a 2 inch barrel.   I feel safe enough , and that is about all I can contribute , other than my total titanium is very easy to carry, and my bedside gun is a .44 Special.   --- for what it is worth.
