It is a bad one. They didn't take him to the Daytona Track Hospital. Prayers to the family it isn't good.

    SF, have you heard anything regarding what his injuries really are? I’ll swear, NASCAR’s ability to shut off the flow of information rivals that of North Korea.

     He is awake and speaking with family and doctors,” a team statement said. His Wife and him had a separation about 5 days ago according to the news. I sure hope he gets to race again but there could be damage that keeps him from doing so. I sure hope he isn't paralyzed.

    I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan at an autograph session, at Michigan International Speedway some years back. He was just getting his racing career started and I was pretty young (and nervous) to meet the guy. Anyways, he seemed like a really decent guy and I have followed his career pretty close since.

    I hope he 1st and foremost can make a full and speedy recovery and 2nd, race again, if he desires. I just have a bad feeling he may have been injured to the point of putting his racing career in jeopardy, but hopefully that's not the case.

    Just seen a photo of him wide awake and joking with his daughters. The Rocket Man will most likely race again .  Rocketman Update

    Ryan is sitting up and awake and alert, bleeding is in front of head but controllable, bruising on top and left side of head pretty badly, hasnt attempted to walk yet but doctors dont think he will have an issue.

    Remaining in ICU for now 🏁🏁🏁🏁

    Please keep Ryan and his Family your thoughts and prayers

    Amazing info given the crash he experienced!

    I'm betting NASCAR has what's left of that car locked down under armed guard for further study. Was that fuel cell designed not to leak, even under those conditions?

    Now that Newman seems to be OK, I am curious about the events that lead to the crash.

    Blaney seems to be suggesting that he was bump-drafting Newman in order to help a Ford into the winner's circle.  I confess to ignorance of NASCAR tactics, but watching the events leading up to the race, this seems odd.  At the time, it appears that Blaney is first attempting to get around Newman, gets a little loose when contact with Hamlin, and then goes forward and tags Newman, sending him across the track.  To those of you familiar with the sport, does his story makes sense?

    Also, when Newcomb is passing across the front of Hamlin's car, two small panels raise at the rear of the hood on either side.  Are these spoilers of some sort that add downforce when hard braking is initiated?  Have never seen this in my 32 minutes of NASCAR watching over the past 30 years.

    Ryan was released from the hospital today and walked out thru the front door holding his daughters hands today . Truly unbelievable how well the car protected him . God is good all the time 💒

    Those little panels were required by NASCAR to keep the car from going airborne if it is going backwards down the track .

    Thank you, S-F.  The ones on Hamlin's car lifted.  Perhaps they were reacting to the airflow being disrupted.

    Looks like he will be ok. Even I can appreciate that and I don't care much for NASCAR.  I hope he is able to race again, and race well again someday soon.
