    Always liked him.  Not his politics, but his talent.

    The wife and I saw him a few years ago.  A small theater, probably 750 total folks.  A 100% one man show. Always been impressed with someone holding an audience with just his voice, a guitar and an harmonica.

    I can only imagine he's a loon politically.
    But talent-wise....That guy is about the least talented person ever to sell a record.
    Now, I've only heard a song or two on the radio.  But that's enough.
    Off key, can't carry a tune.  Wow!  Talentless.
    Anyway, just my opinion.  Flame if necessary.

    Neal has a weird voice, he sounds like a girl.  But he is a great guitarist and song writer.  I love his songs.
    Except for that one, "Southern Man."   Arrogant BS from a condescending Canadian.  I am a Southerner and I hear that song, I say "Shut up, Neal."

    This song, off Neil Young’s 1970 album “After the Gold Rush” was a comment on the white South’s rise to wealth and glory on the backs of black slaves.

    Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose members were good friends with Young, wrote “Sweet Home Alabama” as a southern man’s response to this song as well as the song “Alabama” from the Neil Young album Harvest.

    Young has said he is honored to be have his name featured in that song. In his 2012 memoir Waging Heavy Peace, Young wrote:

    Alabama richly deserved the shot Lynyrd Skynyrd gave me with their great record. I don’t like my words when I listen to it today. They are accusatory and condescending, not fully thought out, too easy to misconstrue.


    Neil must have had a heavy heart when Ronnie Van Zants plane crashed in Oct. 77 along with some band members. Feud was over with Van Zant

    I didn't misconstrue his words, I heard exactly what he said.  A Canadian from Winnipeg.  I have spent 6 months living in Canada and I never saw a black person.  He didn't know anything about what was going on in the South with black people, except for some news reports on NBC and some movies.
    Then he moved to the arts and crafts scene of LA, he knew some rich black artists and musicians, but he knew nothing about blacks in the rural South.
    This is some condescending BS written by an arrogant foreigner.  I am glad to know that finally, he made a half-assed apology.

    Other than this song I do love his music.

    He has been an American citizen for about 3 weeks.  I saw him and his wife Darryl Hannah going to the courthouse to get his papers in order.

    "The Needle and the Damage Done."   "I Believe in You."  Great songs.

    Here is a weird song about Neil Young.  Back in 1984 I was a paramedic in  a small town in central Georgia.  I lived way out in the country down along the Oconee River.  There was a ten acre pecan grove, we had a circular driveway through there, and there were 3 houses and 2 trailers there in the pecan grove.  Sort of a rural neighborhood.
    One night, I was sitting around with 2 paramedic buddies.  We were drinking beer and playing LPs on the stereo.   We were playing Neil Young.
    Suddenly, an ambulance pulled up into the driveway, running lights and sirens.  It went past my house and up to one of the trailers 100 yards away.  Weird, crazy, an ambulance call in my little neighborhood.  Dwight, Jerry and I jumped up and ran over to the trailer.  We went inside, and there was a guy laying on the floor, he had a .410 shotgun hole in his chest, and a .38 hole in his forehead.  Turned out his wife shot him with the shotgun, but he was still wiggling, so son shot him in the head.
    Ron and Rick were hooking him up to the monitor etc but it was obvious there was nothing we could do.  Plus we were drunk.
    We knew the place would soon be swarming with cops.  We jumped off the porch, and went back to my little house.

    I told Dwight "Play that music again!"  He put the needle on the record which had been playing while we witnessed the gruesome murder scene, and the next song was "Down by the River."
    That was too weird,   I lived "down by the river" and I just saw where my female neighbor would have said, "I shot my baby.
    Dead....shot him dead...."
    Life follows art.
