Alright, here's the deal. I've contacted support but haven't received a response yet.

Current high bidder Jimz408, is somewhat local and is a regular customer, he texted me Friday and said he accidentally set his proxibid, he meant to bis $410 but accidentally put it at $41,000. I told him not to worry as it will just sell for $500 or so. Then on Friday night this other guy, jeepcommander, comes along and over 6 minutes at 12:30am bids like 20 times and drives the price up.

I can only surmise that the guy who bid it up is either drunk, stupid, really really wanted this BPS or possibly knew the situation(possibly know Jimz408?) And decided to screw with him.

All I know is I have a shotgun that's like 6 times overpriced and a high bidder that won't pay, and I don't expect him to, he made an honest mistake. Gunbroker support articles state "data entry" errors as a reason for them to nullify a bid, they even use "entering $40000 instead of $400" as an example.

    It's a mess.

Sound like you can nullify Jim's bid but still sell it to the second guy that pushed it up so high.   Doesn't sound like he made a 'data entry error'.

REALLY glad my bid of $42k did not have to come in to play.

I figured it was unintentional on at least one persons part but having 2 people involved to get it that high is nuts. The second place bidder hasn't bought anything since 2018. Maybe he's been saving up for a really big purchase.:)  Bob

You just never know.  I wanted a Lyman tap in full length sizer in 45-70.  I bid on them when they turned up which is rare.  Almost always there was someone willing to pay more than me.  One time these 2 people pushed the bidding to $150 about 10 times the going rate back then.  I e-mailed the winner asking what's up - was there some collector value I wasn't aware of involved.  He sent back a 2 page write up on free markets and stuff - which boiled down he had been out bid many times too for that item and he was tired of looking so he was going to buy that one come hell or high water.

The Lyman 310 steel handles (1957 only) that take the insert have shot way up in price.  The last one sold for $260 plus shipping with no dies or box - the last one I bought was $45 with shipping.

The Lee hand loader's in 410 often go for over $100 these days.

I, as in I, can't do anything but wait for:

    1. The auction to end and have to probably file a npb on Jimz408 to get my probably $250-300 in fees back.

    2. Someone as Gunbroker to cancel the auction or get rid of the people's bids. Gunbroker is never been known to be overly responsive and I assume it to be worse on weekends. Its been 25 hours now still no response.

None of this is my fault but I'm sure I'll be the bad guy when the auction ends and I give him his options. I'd really like to know who the other guy is that bumped the bid so high, if it's a random bidder or if he's someone messing with the situation.

Just curious how this turned out. Should I send you a BPS 10 to see if you can get this high a price for me?:)  Bob

Gunbroker was alot of help, basically told the high bidder too bad and never did respond to me.

I made a deal with the high bidder, he is paying a fair price for the shotgun plus the gb fees.

I guess we worked it out but am disappointed in Gunbroker. When I've had other issues they've always handled them quickly but this time they were no help.

    The gb fees were $130.

Glad you got it straightened out. Guess I won't have to find a BPS to send you. 😊 Bob
