So why am I not concerned about the corona virus??

The corona virus isn't hardly on my radar screen.  I think it is a result of the constant desensetising amount of crap that I have been bombarded with since the 70s.  In the 70s it was the NEW ICE AGE and it was going to change the world as we know it.  And then it was THIS and then it was THAT and then it was another type of THIS/THAT and in every case these things were going to change the world as we know it.  Economic collapses, AIDS, hurricanes that were going to wipe Florida off the map, NYC and Miami were going to be completely under water before the year 2000 and how could we forget Y2K and on and on and on and on and on and on and you get my drift.  In 45 years I have yet to see one of these dire predictions come true.  I have reached the point where I wouldn't believe anything the media says unless I can look out my window and see it for myself.  So now it is the flu that is going to change the world as we know it.  Sorry, can't buy it.

    I concur- The media hores, CDC, WHO ect ect all profit off this and imo that is why the hype builds up to the most dire thing there is. The CDC and WHO are the biggest scams going.

    gotta agree with dreher, we were all supposed to die of aids in the 80's, then Y2K was going to destroy everything as we know it.  I think it was Obammy who said don't let a disaster go to waste, we each have our own level of fear/worry, after the last few years I just don't care as much anymore..........

    There really isn't much reason to be concerned, considering you have only two choices in the matter anyway. IF it does start to spread 'in the wild' here,.....you either go about your normal life taking common sense precautions,.........OR, you have the ability to hole up in your home for weeks or months, at the very first sign of activity in your area.

    That means not even opening your door to another human, and disinfecting mail and packages, or not handling them at all preferably. Of course you will need plenty of food, and if you are on meds, plenty of your scrips as well. The key is ZERO human contact whatsoever.

    Should this make its way here I could take the second path, as I really don't 'have' to work any longer, but I also don't have the desire to live that way for months on end either. If it gets here, I plan on going about my normal life, and whatever happens,....happens.

    I note Ebola is no longer in the news. Kind of glad I'm home in the USA. Flights in and out of both Iraq and Africa were full of Chinese.

    A 42-year-old fugitive from Brooklyn is now being held under observation for coronavirus at a Buffalo, New York, detention center after he told agents at the Canadian border that he had recently been to China. 

    Kevin Qiu has an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Pennsylvania, though it is not clear for what he was wanted. 

    At some point, he made his way to Canada and, on Wednesday, attempted to come back to the US via the Peace Bridge. 

    He admitted to Customs Border and Patrol officers that he had recently been to China. His name was flagged for the warrant, and the officers took him into custody.  

    Qiu is being housed at the Erie County jail, where medical personnel are closely monitoring his temperature and vitals, in case he develops any signs of the virus. 

    'Qiu, who has recently traveled to China, is assessed as a "medium risk" individual for the virus,' said the Erie County Sheriff's Office in a statement.



    Some jack wagon like this that is not caught he sneaks into the country and starts infecting people.  The virus has as much as a 14 day period where you show no symptoms but can infect others.  The guy goes to NYC, rides the subway, goes to a few bars or pizza joints all the time infecting people then those people infect others and away we go...............................


    Wait till it gets to Africa ;)

     As China’s government has worked to contain the virus, the supply chain has been compromised, from the China marine terminals to the inland destination points, Friedmann said, noting the supply chain disruption has spanned the Pacific Ocean and affected U.S. marine terminals and inland. Friedmann said cargo that has been offloaded at China terminals has started to back up. Domestic freight routing has been hindered because of the measures to contain the spread of the virus. Also, the movement of people to and from work and trucking from place to place have been restricted. The limited capacity at the terminals cannot store all the containers coming off the ships, he said.
    Less cargo has been shipped from China to the United States as production in China has slowed because factories have been shut down to contain the virus. The shutdowns have led to production declines in consumer goods, including apparel, footwear and electronics, and industrial products. The lower volumes of cargo and containers have led to fewer ocean shipments to the United States and an “emerging threat of a shortage of ocean carrier capacity to timely take our exports back to China on what would ordinarily be the ‘backhaul’ of a roundtrip ocean voyage,” Friedmann said.
