Thanks for nothing USPS - I hope I'm not screwed - UPDATE 2
A couple of weeks ago the stars aligned and I had an opportunity to take the Utah CCW class. It was 5 min from my house in one 4 hour course on a Saturday evening. Its not valid in my home state of MD but most of the surrounding states recognize it including VA where my vacation home is. I mailed off my envelope including the application, personal check, copy of my DL and a passport photo. Sent it first class certified mail. Was supposed to be delivered last Thursday. Tracking was following like it should and showed on Thursday that it was to be delivered by end of the day. On Friday it showed that it left the post office for the next destination. Wait a minute. It was at its final destination on Thursday. Same message on Saturday and Sunday. Nothing new yesterday. I filed a complaint with the USPS this morning but now I'm afraid that my DL, SSN and banking information is in the hands of someone who may use it for no good. I should have sent it UPS air freight and been done with it. I'm sick and tired having to worry about people who cant do their job.

UPDATE 02/12: I spoke with a very nice lady at the Utah Post Office. She said my envelope was not there and that it had probably been delivered and they had missed the scan. She suggested that I call the Utah BCI and see if they received it. I called this morning and was told that they are behind entering the received applications and that I should call back Friday or Tuesday as Monday is a holiday.
UPDATE 02/26: Utah BCI still has not received my package. I have contacted again the USPS to ask that they look for my package. It was scanned at the destination PO so it really shouldn't be too hard to find.

Just to reassure you........I ship thousands of packages a month, and this is VERY common. It will probably turn up, just delayed. The "Certified" bit throws the end carriers off sometimes, for some reason. Most mail carriers are so lazy it is criminal. I have a mail carrier for 15+ years now that is incredible though, so they are out there!
Sadly, UPS and Fed-Ex are just as bad these days.

I was talking to a good friend yesterday , he told me that the post office sent him a letter saying that he would not be getting any mail until he moved his mailbox a half mile down the road to an intersection where there are no houses for a half a mile because the mail carrier complained about driving a half a mile for only 1 house. so they want him to put his mail box out in the middle of nowhere to satisfy a paid mail carriers lazyness . 0 -
I'm in the outback. My locked mail box is 2.5 miles from my house. This last Christmas season I had to drive to town 35 miles to get 2 packages, because the package lockers were full - jerks don't pick up their mail. Any way on NextDoor lots of other people complained too. So now if your box is in the locker the next day and they have new packages they pull the old one and give that person a go to town claim check and put in the new one. Only six lockers are available for maybe 60 people. I go and wait for the mail if I know a package is coming - saved me two trips to town.
The regular UPS, FedX and Otrack will come to my house road conditions allowing, the subs never make it and you end up in package limbo.0 -
I purchased a rifle on Gun Broker and sent a USPS money order through USPS. The seller never received the check . I hadn't sent it certified, just regular first class mail. That was expensive lesson.

If it was a rural carrier they get paid by 3 criteria: Amount of mail, number of boxes and miles driven. Seems like at the next mail count ( route review ) his carrier will get paid a little less. Judy was a rural carrier for 37 years and had some great customers and some that you couldn't make happy if you gold plated their mail. She delivered everything from live bees and poultry to heavy one piece car bumpers. Now carriers take one look at some of those types of packages and just leave a notice to go to the office to pick it up. Judy still has people come up to her and tell her how much they miss her on her old route. In the office where she worked at least two of the carriers shouldn't still have a job because of drug and alcohol abuse. Because of the union they can't fire them so the customers get substandard service. UPS and FedEx don't have to put up with that crap. Bob

They might have meant that the letter was delivered to the serving post office of the addressee on Thursday, and that it would be delivered to the addressee the following day. Anyway, your letter is [probably in good hands. Good luck. 0 -
Sold some bullets to a guy on GunBroker for $220. After a week he called to ask where his bullets were; I said I hadn't got any money yet. He said he had sent it out a week earlier...CASH! Oh, No!
He said he would send a check but I told him no. I didn't want him paying for it twice! I told him I would get back to him and called my little brother, who has been the mailman here since '81. He told me they had an envelope at the post office but all they could make out was the zip code, which got it to our tiny town.
Everything else was smudged so badly that it was illegible. He said the postmaster opened it up and it had money in it and a piece of paper that said 'Thanks!' I asked if it was 220 bucks and he told me to go get my envelope. I did, then I called the guy back and told him the deal.
He said he got a new printer and when he dropped the envelope in the outside blue can the fresh ink must have gotten smeared. To tell the truth, I couldn't even make out the zip code. I put his envelope in a larger one and sent it to him so he could see what a mess it was. Then I kept his bullets to teach him a lesson!
I'm joking, of course I sent him the bullets and all was well and good.0 -
Shocking to me how many pieces of mail I get in my box that are not mine, I have three mail addresses, a PO Box in a small town and two regular mail boxes with different addresses. At least once every month I get someone else's mail and mark it up and leave it in the box. It makes me wonder how much mail I wasn't getting so I signed up for informed delivery and now I report any missing mail. It always seems to show up after I report it. The post office has been forced to hire blithering idiots is all I can assume. 0 -
Years ago, a guy I only knew online stemming from a common interest asked me to copy some publicly available, but hard to find stuff to a hard drive. So, he bought an external drive and had it shipped straight to me. I loaded up the requested items and sent it back within a day or two. Long story short, 3-4 weeks later he asked if I had ever gotten around to doing that. So, I told him when I shipped it. I finally remembered that I had the receipt. Though it wasn't certified or anything, it shows it was shipped to his little town of a few hundred people. He was good with that and we just waited. About 6 weeks after that (10 weeks total), he gets it. Packaged and stamped exactly as I said. Box was perfect condition. No idea where it went for that period of time. I was glad he got it as though I feel I know him fairly well online, that might have ended it. Ever since then, we exchange Christmas cards each year. 0 -
I was a rural carrier for 32 yrs. The pre-funded health care demand has blown everything up in the USPS. The main demand on the management is to save time. Jar, the idea to move your box was probably made by management to save time and you can dispute it. The subs aren't as dumb as they are expected to do their routes under the evaluated time. Basically the clock is ticking and the whip is cracking. If the carriers go over their time, the local management gets a carpet call from some suit in a main office and his job is threatened. When it comes to certified mail, someone has to be there to sign for it. If no one is available, a pick-up notice is written and the piece goes back to the PO. It's kept in a secured location, not left laying around. Usually in a safe. If the addressee get a pick-up notice and decides to let that lay around for a while, it can look like a delay of service. 0 -
Last week FedEx left a package of three pistols sitting on top of my mail box about 150 feet from the front door along a road used by hundreds of cars every day. Sure there was an adult signature required and they even told me that I'd signed for it. When I asked them why I would have left it on top of my mailbox so far from my door if I'd really signed for it, they didn't have an answer. 0 -

In McDonough, GA, the last place we lived before we moved here the mail delivery was so bad that it was a common sight to see neighbors in the subdivision every afternoon delivering mail to each other that had been put in the wrong box.
I called the main post office and spoke with the postmaster and requested that he have our mail carrier to just dump all the mail on the ground at the entrance to our subdivision so the residents could stop off on their way home and sort through it and pick out their own mail so we didn't have to deliver it to each other after the mail carrier put it in the wrong box. Must have just pissed him off because the mail service never got any better.3 -
I had my daughter send a return item via USPS. I told her to make sure she sent it priority mail. Her male companion was with her. They both watched as the postal employee stuck several priority mail stickers on the box. Tracking took it to a distribution center in the state it was to be delivered, then nothing. My daughter generally does not mail packages, and didn't know the normal cost. I was sick and in bed when she returned so I told her to just stick the mailing receipt in the drawer. When I found out the package was missing I pulled the receipt from the drawer to find out the package was actually mailed standard postage. So, no insurance, so I am out $97 - Thank you USPS 0 -

A week ago we sent a birthday card to Idaho in a flat rate priority envelope. It hit Spokane Wa., and the P.O. within 20 miles of the desination,twice. Got sent back to Spokane who then forwarded it to L.A. as of yesterday. It is in transit today, headed, somewhere. 0 -

USPS employees still get their checks from the Treasury, just like other federal employees. But, for the 3rd year in a row, Trump recommended freezing federal salaries. And, he has asked Congress to reduce their pensions. If you're looking for loyalty, get a dog. 0 -
Post office pensions are totally separate from normal federal employees. Congress forced them to fund their retirement so far into the future it's ridiculous. That is why they show such massive deficits every year. They have pension funds for people that haven't even been born yet, let alone hired.
