    What about the field tests such as reciting the alphabet, touching your nose, walking a straight line, etc? Those are a lot cheaper than this new device.

        You still can get a DUI I bet after the insurance companies crack down on those states with their legislators getting lobbyist money. Sure you can smoke up, pay taxes on it and beat the employers drug tests but when it comes to making money on unsafe drivers they will be fair game,plus the stuff they smoke now is way more intoxicating then 40 years ago.

    That is certainly true serf. I got a DUI in Kansas on legally prescribed opiates (and used within what I was prescribed).
    I got hurt in 93 and had surgery in 95. Due to anger issues (of a life now of restricted abilities), I raised hell for a year or so and got a few tickets. Since 1996, I have had zero tickets, zero accidents that were my fault, I graduated from college, and held a full time job through most of that except a MAJOR flare-up in ~2000-2002. My point is that if these things impaired me to the point of being an unsafe driver, it would have shown itself long before now.
    I got pulled over allegedly running a stop sign. I don't know, maybe I did. It was 2:20am, in another state, in a town I didn't know. I had been up since 5am the previous day. Then, they make me do the "monkey tricks". I tell them with my condition with sciatica and also numbness in my feet, there's no way I can do it. They gave me a breathalyzer and blew a 0.00. He was just wrapping up and another cop showed up and it changed in a hurry. He made me do the money tricks anyway which I knew I would fail; and did. So, they take me in and they drew blood. They wouldn't even let me leave. I had to have my brother-in-law come from a nearby town pick me up causing him to be late for work. Apparently they have a law where basically any opiates in your system will justify charging a DUI. Well, without them, I'd be a vegetable living on a futon mattress in our living room (Which incidentally is how/when I found this forum back in 2002). That's just pure BS. But, over $3k later, it was reduced to reckless driving. Still BS though...

    Cheaper to hold up a bag of chips and watch for saliva.
