HK USP 40 Stainless

I have a full size HK USP 40 V3 with a stainless slide.  The date code is KE.  Based on the HK website, that means it was produced in 1994, one year after the USP was first released in 1993.  However, I thought that the stainless version was not released until 1996, at least that is what I have read.  Clearly that is wrong.  Anyone have any more additional information that they can share with me?  Thanks,
