Something that bothers me to no end....the "I got it so much cheaper" guy that comes along.
I don't know what it is with some people, but they LOVE to come around and tell people that they bought a thing for pennies compared to whatever you paid. I see it a LOT on the Pyrex groups. Some woman will post a picture of a dish she is thinking about buying from some store and some nut job will come around boasting about how they found the same thing for a dollar at some thrift store. I don't believe half the people that say mess like this.
The last time it happened was over some desk chairs. We just moved our office to the upstairs and I had to buy some desks and replace a chair in the process. Someone dropping off a gun went on and on about how he found nice office furniture for nearly nothing at some second hand place.
I don't have time to shop. I hardly ever buy anything at all besides groceries and firearms.....so I don't EVER get a deal on anything. I can't imagine having the spare time to run around looking for these bargains.

When I worked in a gun store, a guy asked the price on a new Rem 700. I told him and he went apoplectic. "Hell, I can get one at WalMart for xxx.xx, but they're out of them." So I said, "Well, when we're out of them, we list them at a dollar." He promptly said, "I'll take two!" and quickly handed me the bills. I put them in my pocket and said thanks. After a bit he said "Where are they?" And I said, "I gave you the two we're out of. You want a receipt?" I don't think he ever came back. 3 -
I knew a guy like that one time. To listen to him, people paid him to take nice things home. Came down to the fact the guy was full of crap, and a pathological liar. 3 -
I don't understand the need to tell people they are paying more than you did for something. Especially the Pyrex bunch. Someone will post a picture of a bowl showing they just bought something and how excited they are to be taking it home. It might be $20 or some such piddly amount.....and some NUT will come along harping on about how they got the same thing for $1. They can't just let someone be happy. 0 -
We used to hear it all the time - comparing our prices to Cabelas. We used to tell them, you spend the hour to drive there, and hour screwing with them, an hour to drive back, you are going to pay 3% higher tax rate and they are going to charge you $50 to transfer it to us. We are going to charge you $50 to transfer it in just because you pitched a fit because our price was $5 higher. Yeah you showed us... really saved that $5, didn't you? 0 -
I dont go out and shop much anymore. I have learned I can buy just about anything i want or need inline and nowadays 95 % of them have free shipping. Unless its just something i need right now I order it

I have recently read that some Corning dishes are going for manys $1000s. So I have been spotting and buying some at the thrift store where I am always finding deals..... and upsetting people 0 -
when i was in the military in the mid 70's i learned three things that made my life much simpler. 1. my car didnt get as good of gas mileage as other peoples. if my b-210 datsun got 25mpg the next guys 426 hemi got 35. 2. i couldn't drive places as fast as other people did. if it took me two hours to drive 150 miles everybody made it in one and a half. 3. i couldnt buy things as cheap as other people could. if i paid someone .90 for new dollar bills everyone else was paying .75 after i learned these three things and quite worrying about them my life became much simpler. 9 -

Under the general category of getting along with folks, and not being an azzhat, when somebody is all excited about their new car, truck, gun, bird dog, Stetson, pair of boots, and they tell you how much they paid, there is nothing in the world wrong with saying "Wow! That looks really great! Sounds like you got a really good deal!" Even if it is ugly as crap, and you DID pay less. Making the other guy feel bad about something he was all excited about is a jerk kinda thing to do. 6 -
I try to stimulate the economy were ever I amo:) 0 -
I've run into that situation many times. Not just firearms but many other items. When someone tells me that he can get what I am selling for much less, I just tell them at that price to buy what you need and I'll buy the rest. 0 -
It happened to us at the gunshow all the time.
Somebody would come up and say "He has it for less over there."
We would tell him to go over there and buy it. Then the negotiations would begin, but honestly they got off to a pretty bad start.0 -
Agreed!chme said:Under the general category of getting along with folks, and not being an azzhat, when somebody is all excited about their new car, truck, gun, bird dog, Stetson, pair of boots, and they tell you how much they paid, there is nothing in the world wrong with saying "Wow! I mean, who gets their lollies from putting a damper on someone else??? There is a special kind of wrong with someone that sees another person having a good moment and says "let me put my two cents in here."
Gun deals can be like fishing stories sometimes. If I get a super nice deal on something its usually because someone else is in a pickle and I just hate that for them, but I need the money too.....so I don't turn down a decent offer. I'm not going to go out and tell someone that just bought something some lame tale about how they used to be free with a gallon of gas just to take the luster out of their smile though.0 -
factorin the time they spent to find the deal and there you go , you come out ahead paying more 0 -
I'm no expert on these things....its become my "no stress" hobby to look at other people's displays and I buy something from time to time that I think is pretty, but I don't have the time or effort to make a big show of things.papernicker said:I have recently read that some Corning dishes are going for manys $1000s. I became a much happier person when I quit watching the news about problems that I can't fix or cared about what other people thought about most things. 0 -

we had some bowls like those , like that big Red top left and the 3rd one down in the center of the 2nd shelf, they belonged to my Mother but one day my wife opened the door to get something out of the cabinet and they all just came flying out right onto the floor0 -
25 years ago when I worked in a gun shop we often had those who said, "I can get it for $X less at Wal~Mart" and the boss always said, "Then go there and buy it, we don't compete with them." 0 -
If I knew how to post pictures I would show you the receipt for my 1911 pistol from the DCM. Unit price $14.15 + $2.85 packing and handling. Total $17.00.

Was 1911 the model of the pistol - or the year you bought it?gruntled2 said:If I knew how to post pictures I would show you the receipt for my 1911 pistol from the DCM. Unit price $14.15 + $2.85 packing and handling. Total $17.00.

I am no expert on dishes but I think I see $100,000 in Corning. Google it. I guess someone is or was blowing up the Ebay market with their collection and a couple fake bidders 0 -
The only super expensive dish I can name is the Pyrex Lucky in Love....it has shamrocks and hearts on it, they didn't make many and people pay a FORTUNE for them. All the rest I've seen were scams where people were trying to run something up to make it seem like something it wasn't. 0 -
Regardless.. there are always folks who try and outdo one another. 0 -
As a person living on fixed income, I have more time than money. I will look for a long time to save a dime on a purchase. 0 -

Well said, The news ain't news, most pundits and so-called journalists are sheltered, clueless (D) loving Marxists so why bother getting upset over something you have zero control over0 -
It is America.. people don't care how much they spend it is how much they saved. 0 -

Was disappointed to put the right one on today and finding its a, second left one, in a very similar looking shoe
I looked and looked and saw no matching, non matching shoes. I was finally able to explain things to the 100% non English speaking crew of dozens, after a while. A girl comes back to counter after taking my shoes for awhile with two pairs and asks me which matching pair I want. I really lucked out and didnt need to buy a second pair and they can now sell the other pair. This place has unbelievable finds X 1000. I wish I had a sale or 1000 on my ancient Ebay account, instead of 0
