Wild news this morning
So last spring, we gave a friend in Cody Wyoming a male Bluetick Walker cross out of our litter around 4 months old, this dog resided in the house with another old Bluetick and a wiener dog.
This morning I get a frantic call from my buddy who is at work in Texas, so here's the story.
evdently his wife had picked up a couple weanling pups for their daughters and had them in a box in the house.
the dog I gave them BO, became interested in the puppies and the wiener dog came to their defense and got aggressive and BO grabbed him by the head and was shaking him like a rat.
my buddies wife was attempting to pry the little dogs head out of the big dogs mouth and snap, quick as a flash, the big dog Bo, bit the middle finger of her left hand clean off and then while she was tending to her wound, the dog evidently ate the finger, as she couldn't find it before loading the little dog to head for the vet and then to the hospital for her.
he called to see if my boy in Powell, 22 miles east could come assist, but by the time we got it arranged, she was calling my buddy from the hospital and his boy who lives in Laurel Montana was headed down.
Can't make this stuff up if we were screenwriters for a reality show..
Dont know at this point if the dog will get put down today, or have to be in quarantine and then put down.
But I'm sure when she says "dog bite" at the hospital, the Park county sheriffs dept will be involved.

Here in Indiana when ever we get a patient with an animal bite there is a form we fill out and fax to the county health department. It is up to the health department to follow up on it if needed. If the situation appears to place a child are an adult of limited function in danger then the police may be called. With a dismemberment, like the finger, or other serious injuries we would call the police so the situation could be evaluated. 0 -

That is a dog that needs put down as soon as the authorities are done with any quarantine necessary!!!!! I don't think the act of biting off a finger should ever be given a second chance, my God what else could it bite off if it is around a child?? 0 -
I imagine any dog in the process of what it thinks is defending itself could accidentally snap someone trying to intervene. That said I would off the som beech if it bit my finger off, the wife? Her call LOL 0 -

My wife learned a valuable lesson trying to intervene in a dog fight. Two of our male Beagles got into it while I was at work. She reached in to try to break it up and got a puncture wound in her forearm. Our daughter took her to the ER, and next thing she knows, in walks a cop! After a couple of days dealing with our vet and the local PD, we didn't have to put either dog down (no idea which dog bit her). One of the dogs was a real trouble maker, he finally met his end when he bit me. Dog gone! 0
