The well known adventurer and soldier of fortune, Lt Col ‘Mad Mike’ H o a r e, died in his sleep and with dignity aged 100 years at a care facility in Durban on 2 February 2020.

    To tell you the truth, I thought he'd died years ago. I had a copy of his book, Congo Mercenary, but it didn't make to move to Florida.

    He was a hell of a soldier.  I read Congo Mercenary several times, the last time was on the plane going to the Congo.  I was in Kisinganai(Stanleyville and several other towns he liberated, bullet holes still in the buildings.  I even found an old jeep and a M3 Scout Car they had destroyed in fighting. 

    I wish I could have met him and talked to him about the Congo.
