I declined on Buddy's behalf, but we requested a Femur. 😉

had a really cool male nurse in holding and we were talking/joking when a young gal came in to help him, may early 20's. I looked at him and asked if I could have the old bone, he just ask me why, said they had to have good reason to give them back. I told him I knew a guy who had a pit bull and he wanted the bone for him, and if possible even a femur. the look on her face was priceless. surgery went well in out and up on my feet in about 3-4 hours. had a few complications afterwards may have had slight stroke, the wall in the left chamber in my heart is not as elastic as it should be, they made me stay till yesterday to make sure it wouldn't be problem, only problem was trying to get my VA cardiologist to answer their questions, took about 3 days, seems this is some of my shortness of breath issues also, but it is an old issue that he knew about and just something I will have to live with. then they tried to change my medications, I refused that also, without his consent. so instead of waiting for a response they said it should be no problem to continue everything as before.Sam06 said:Did he keep the bone for your dog?
got home last night and can get around on walker and up down out of brand new recliner my son got me yesterday, only thing I can't do is get in/out of bed, I can't lift my right leg/new hip onto/off of the mattress. pain is managable but the incision in on my hip/butt cheek, so no way sitting or lying to not feel it. start therapy on tuesday, allready no pain in hip to bear weight on just when go to move thigh muscles get pain. they say it will get better and I can see/feel improvements myself already so think all will go well just be slow process. they are saying 4-6 weeks and should be back almost normal, hope so.
sorry Ken but buddy will have to find his own chew toys, you can tell him I was thinking about him.....0 -
Glad to hear you made out okay. Heal quickly. Sounds like you did great. I would never imagine being able to be back on your feet within 3-4 hours.

one other I couldn't resist, grandson came over to sit with me this morning while wife went church/store. I got up and slowly started over to bathroom just as I was turning to go in I told him, did your grandma tell you, you had to help me, he nodded, I said no I mean HELP, I can got to the bathroom by myself I just can't wipe, I can't reach back there. you should have seen the look on his face, he didn't know if I was serious or not, I know it wasn't nice but I couldn't help but mess with him......... 3 -
I can appreciate that. Part of the reason I moved back down here, was to help with my Dad. He had had multiple strokes, and needed some help. It broke my heart to see him like that. Imagine a 32 year Lifer ABN CSM, WWII, Korea, Vietnam war Vet needing someone to help him wipe after going to the bathroom. How humbling.
I did for him, and felt absolutely humbled in doing so. Looking back now, after he has passed, I am extremely proud that I was able to do that for him. I am sure he felt about it the same way I did.

took me a week or so to get in and out of bed by myself.
another happy day is the day the staples come out.

when I had my knee done in oct I was up walking with a walker in 4 hours nd doing steps in 8hours

I guess I can somewhat relate. When I had my Heart Surgery done in 2005, I went up and down the hall, and up and down two flights of Stairs, two days later. They later told me, "that is the test we use to release Patients. We can not let you go two day's after Heart Surgery."
I figured with bone cutting involved, the recovery time would have been greater.

I have no doubts I will get over this, it is just new pain I am not used to. although it is nothing to what some of the member here live with on a daily basis, MrMike, Dave, and I think Mobley, and Benetue? who both had back issues if I remember right. I know mine will be decreasing and going away in few weeks, I am humbled by those who put up with this on daily basis knowing it isn't going to get better..... 0 -
Drive on Hillbille, you'll be getting around better and with less pain than you did before surgery after you get healed up. 0
