I just don't see this as being a very worthwhile technique. What do you think?

A horse soldier had a lot of uses for his hands, his handgun, his carbine, his horse reins, etc. Wearing the handgun holstered but forward allowed it to be drawn by whichever hand is free at the moment. 0 -
I would be afraid to look at the video. The guys pants are already about to fall down and that would be a sight that would get imprinted in your mind that wouldn't go away for a while. 0 -

I like to carry cross draw if I know I will be driving long distance. Find it's the most comfortable way to carry while seated in a vehicle for hours at a time. This technique is handy in the event your strong hand is occupied. 0 -
Drobs states correctly the the pistol is holstered for a cross draw, meaning opposite (left) hand is used. The reason this guy uses his right hand is that he can’t reach with his left.

I had a high-ride crossdraw holster custom made for my Blackhawks. Holds the gun right up against my ribs like a shoulder rig but without the straps. VERY comfy and always accessible even with a coat. Had it made for my original .357, but it also fits my .41 Special or .44 Special, luckily. 0 -
The guy in the video is wearing a a double butt forward rig. IMO the most useful double rig is regular placement on the strong hand side and butt forward on the off hand side. 0
