Drug Question...Pills

My Lab Dixie is on a narcotic twice a day for seizures. CVS has shorted us pills many of times and I have confronted them and got the answer... we count the narcotics twice and do not make mistakes... This last time for the 120 pills in the bottle there were 130. Noticed also that some of the bottles were initialed and some not initialed.  Are narcotic bottles suppose to be initialed?  Today I go up and get a new prescription.

    The phrase "lost count" pops to mind.

    That is what I figured most likely a store policy to initial .  We have a ton of bottles . So the pharmacy would know who filled them on the count sheet.  Going to talk to the head pharmacist and see if they can get it right.

    I doubt that you are the only person that it would be happening too, so it makes me wonder why they don't have an issue with their inventory count when it comes time to re order, causing someone to look into it. How would they know the difference between miscounting and theft??

    They tell me they hand count twice. In this modern age how in the world don't they have a better method.. maybe a scale to weigh.

    dump them on the counter and count em out before you pay for them, if short rip into them right there............

    They are probably just using an average.  :)

    CVS has been fined millions by the DEA in the past for this, recently again last year, and there's more investigations in progress. The two biggest hits was from their pharmacists in several stores supplying their own habits, and/or backdoor dealing to other addicts. File a complaint.

    Trap is right.  Your complaint may be valid, but the fellas with the bulges in the cheap suits have much bigger fish to fry.  Kind of like the US Postal Inspectors, who only investigate BIG thieves.
    No, you can't weigh drugs.  A pharmacy may get generic Oxycodone made by 10 different companies, & the weight will be different on each one, because the inert ingredients vary.  And, the pharmacists aren't going to double the time that they spend on filling a prescription by checking every prescription with a reloaders' electronic scale.
    CVS might follow up on a complaint; maybe you will have better luck that I had complaining to Walgreens.

    I don't think CVS has been out of a probationary period in the last 5 yrs.  The store manager may not have a clue the Pharmacy is screwing up until they get an audit. I would make a complaint to him first, and tell him you want a response in 24hrs. If you don't get one, or get a BS response, make a call to the DEA. The manager will have an unwelcome response in 24hrs, both from the DEA, and corporate most likely walking some people out the front door.
    The company I worked for delivering hospital supplies, also supplies the pharmaceuticals to CVS. I can tell you the DEA will be in that store counting pills, and going over every piece of paperwork.

    Head pharmacist was very polite and thanked me numerous times for bringing it to her attention. Was on the computer for a long time and said she had to go make a report and send it in to someone of the mistake . She was not happy this occurred . She knew exactly who filled it.  There were exactly 120 pills in the bottle today. She personally counted them. By her tone I could tell I wouldn't want to be the one that filled it.

    Having been a certified medical administration tech for 10 years I can testify that the DEA does not take kindly to control drug shortages . Some one is in some serious crap

    The pharmacy we used to use filled a scrip for me. After I had taken a couple of them, my wife discovered they had filled my scrip with the wrong med. It just happened to be one my Mother-in-law was taking for he dementia!
