Space Force uniform
I though the uniforms would be like Star Trek but I guess not.

Not sure about the uniform, but I do have a "real" question.
Is there a flag?
I participate in military funerals and we have many military displays in our museum at the American Legion Memorial Building (a former National Guard Armory). Some of those displays include the flags for each of the branches of service (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard). It looks like I need to get another flag pole, base, and flag. Not sure what I will do with the other displays that show only the five branches of service. I just thought about the various parks and memorials located through out the country. Looks like they will need to install another flag pole too.
One more thing. We just installed a beautiful black granite monument in the "Field of Glory" at the cemetery last year. It stands over six feet tall and measures fourteen inches on each of the six sides. There is a twelve inch bronze medallion on each side with the branch of service insignia. "Field of Glory" is on the sixth side. Anybody got any ideas on where to put the now sixth bronze medallion - assuming they even have an insignia for that branch?

I think Space Force is organized under the USAF but is the 6th branch of the military(Like the USMC is organized under the USN but is considered a Branch of the service).The uniform is the same as the Army wears and I think the picture is meant to show the unit patch.

My youngest is in the Army, and has been in the space command for several years. Same uniform, differant unit patch. 0 -

No other branch of service is designed (intended?) to operate off the planet. Unless, of course, the Space Force is NOT intended to operate off the planet. In that case, why are they called "Space Force". Couldn't one of the other branches do whatever they are supposed to do here on Earth?0 -

It certainly can't be for earthly military reasons because the government (NASA) has been tracking all the 'space junk' encircling the earth for decades and can detect objects in space millions of miles away. Also the U.S. has the capability of shooting down any incoming missiles long before they arrive here.
So ... why do we need a "space force?"
For some reason this notion that the government is not telling us about alien life persists even when they have, as recently as three years ago. The story regained popularity just a few months back, for some reason. Anyway many foreign governments are quite open about it, so there doesn't appear to be a need to hide anything. Focusing efforts on what are mostly rare interactions seems futile, and further to require an entire space force seems quite inappropriate, to me at least.0 -

We probably don't but look at it this way; now the Government and the military have another branch to fund and fill with Generals and Majors.
I think a better idea would have been to make a USAF MOS or if they want other services then make a Task Force and fill it with the people they need.
Functions
As described in the United States Space Force Act, it will be organized, trained, and equipped to:
- Provide freedom of operation for the United States in, from, and to space
- Provide prompt and sustained space operations
Duties
Its duties include to:
- Protect the interests of the United States in space
- Deter aggression in, from, and to space
- Conduct space operations
What I would like to know is how they are going to fulfill their mission?0 -

I thought all this would be obvious to even the most simple observer. But I overestimated. Or the observers are a lot simpler. We now have enough assets (satellites of all kinds) in space that monitoring, controlling, and operating them is a huge job. Huge enough to warrant a separate branch of service, apparently. It's a wholly different environment, as different as land, air, and sea are from each other - and why we have other branches of military for those three, also. Other countries have similar space assets, and make no bones about their intent to use them militarily. Just as you would not ignore an enemy's navy or air force, so you should not ignore their space assets. 3 -
Rocky while I don't disagree completely with you but I feel that the USAF could handle this as an additional duty and work internally on it with a separate command within the USAF.OrIs this going to be like SOCOM with all Branches contributing to manpower but they are funded separately.I really don't know........
These changes usually come about from a need or a failure in the past I wonder what prompted this.
My other question is how they expect to fulfill their mission with the technology we have today or even the tech we expect we will have. Getting into space hasn't changed all that much since the 60's. We have more automated stuff and computer power but you still have to put stuff you want up there on top of a big rocket and fire off.

Wow, some people just don't get stuff very easy. We aren't the only nation on earth to have things in space/orbit. Weaponization of space is certainly not too distant in the future. Sure there is an agreement not to do it, just like all those other broken agreements that lead to war. 0 -
We can't even get to the space station without hitching a ride from the Russian's. I guess they finally drew the line and said "you need to at least get your own uniforms we're tired of you using all of our stuff".
As long as the U.S. Space and Rocket Center is located in Huntsville, AL the uniforms will be camouflage with little Confederate Flags in the lining.

The way I understand it the transition is supposed to be similar to the split of the Army Air Corps from the Army in the 1940s. It will give them their own General with four star rank with equal standing to the other Chiefs of Staff and a separate appropriation from Congress making it harder to pilfer their funds by the other branches.
In my opinion it’s a bit of a stretch to call the “Space Force” an “Armed Force”. When they make up a few “traditions” their day to day operations will resemble NASA more than the Air Force. If, or when we go to war in space it will be fought from a bank of consoles on Earth. They will be a deadly force but more likely to know 16 count manual of mouse than the 16 count manual of arms.
It isn’t possible for them to choose a more foolish camouflage uniform than the Navy. The only time the Navy’s camouflage will be effective is when you’re in the drink. When you’re bobbing around in any ocean praying to God to be seen and rescued ain’t a good time to hide.

We are going to be poorly suited to repel aliens. Everyone knows that the Space Force is supposed to wear black suits & sunglasses.Oh well, they can't do any worse than NORAD, or whatever they call it now; on 9/11, they couldn't scramble a single armed fighter jet on the entire East Coast.
