Strange discussion at this past weekend gun show.. Had a young fellow an his friend come up to me an ask if I had any shotguns with fiberglass stocks. Now if you guys know me I am old school not much new firearms at all. Unless they are consignments. Will I point to the full rack of 20 Winchester Model 12's. They both tell me that you can not hunt rabbits an ducks with shotguns that have wooden stocks. Right there I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. So I ask why not. They told me the wooden stocks will break an get wet while hunting. I lost it then. So I am tell all you guys out there that we have been doing it wrong. ALL WRONG DON"T HUNT WITH WOODEN STOCKS

Preferring to have a synthetic stock for inclement hunting conditions is a different thing than saying that it can't be done with a wood stock. I have a hard time believing they said the latter, but stranger things have happened. 0 -
Funny, I've hunted pheasants in SD with my friend's family on opening day. Often there are 12+ people with wooden stocked shotguns. But plastic is becoming more popular, especially in waterfowl guns.

I found that when you hit a duck with a synthetic stock,it doesn't dent as easy as a wooden stock. Easier to get the blood off of too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
They (them young future hunters) probably seen that info on their cell phones during their search for how to hunt. 0 -
On the positive side. Good that the young men or looking for shotguns to hunt with instead of something marketed as "tactical". We need more young hunters and it's easier to educate the willing. While I would tell than you can hunt with wooden stocked guns the synthetic stocks have their points too. That they were looking for synthetic stocked shotguns isn't a negative, just means they are thinking. It's up to us old guys to keep it positive work with that. I have a couple of synthetic stocked shotguns myself. 0 -

I only own one synthetic, it is a knight muzzleloader, it is impossible to get clean, I have mudstains in the stock that will not come out no matter how much scrubbing, oil,cleaners or such I have put on it, when it dries it still show the mud smears.......... 0 -
Believe me the info I get told to at the shows every weekend is mind numbing.
Hillbillie the reason you can not get that inline clean is you are not taking it into the shower with you like the old timers did with there muzzle stuffers to clean all the hot soapy water cleans everthing really well

Advantage of the plastic stocks when hunting waterfowl- when you realize that you dropped the paddle overboard from the Jon Boat- and are trying to paddle your boat to shore, the synthetcis hold up mo' betta. 0 -
I agree that there is a practical use for synthetic stocks. But these two young men were totally against using wood to hunt with. I tried to do my best to correct them. But they learned this information on the computer. Which we all know is always correct 0 -
One synthetic I had was the worst recoiling shotgun I ever fired, bruised my cheek every time. The Beretta I now have is also syn, but has a deep recoil pad. Wood, good wood that is, has more weight and more inertia to absorb recoil. and when it gets soft and soggy it weighs more and gets softer to absorb even more recoil. 0
