Fess up!! How many of you actually owned a leisure suit???
As I posted the other day I have done a lot of REALLY stupid things in my life but I never even once thought leisure suits were anything but BUTT ugly and did not even consider buying one.
In retrospect it did seem that the bigger the loser, the more geeky or odd looking the guy was, the greater the chance they would purchase a leisure suit.
The saddest part was watching them strut because they really thought they were cool.

My Dad, a Lifer ABN CSM, WWII, Korea, Vietnam Vet, seemed enamored of them in Miami, shortly after he Retired. (1972-73?)
He had them in Avocado Green, Sky Blue, White etc. My Brother and I used to laugh hysterically at the combinations. (He was Color blind.) White belt and shoes, AKA Herb Tarlick on WKRP in Cincinnati. Too funny. Brings back memories. Good stuff.

I will admit I had one my parents bought me when I was in high school maybe a Christmas or graduation present . it was sorta light blue . and my dad got one not long after I think his is a brown color ( If i remember it packed away some where here ) I still have dads after he passed I found it and decided to keep it , I remember he wore it often .. my take he had little to nothing growing up and that "fancy suit " was just too tempting

I was in high school when they were the height of "fashion", but leisure suits weren't all that popular in Southern California, Anyone wearing a leisure suit would be as out of place in my part of SoCal as someone wearing cowboy boots and a stetson.

Nope,....not a single one. On the other hand, I DID have a number of those light linen style sports jackets that you pushed the sleeves up on like Don Johnson wore in Miami Vice with a silk crew shirt underneath. 🤣

I rocked on for my senior photo. Maroon, baby! A coworker who was in my class, wore a bright green one for his.

When I was working in Knoxville, TN back in the 70s we used to see this black guy that parked his Cadillac in the parking lot next to our building every few days. The car was hand painted with a brush in a color to match his leisure suit. He would wear that leisure suit for a month or more and then he'd change suits and repaint his car to match. He had suits and matching hats that were canary yellow, lime green and bright orange that I remember. He not only would paint the car but he would paint the wheels and tires to match. Everything on the car was painted except the windows, lights and license plate.

had a few growing up, allways wore them to church with the silk tie thingy, think they call them ascot now. never understood why but we could wear them to church but mom wouldn't let us wear one to funeral home, had to put a real suit on for that....... 0 -
No. When they were popular, I was spending five days a week in a Nomex flight suit, and the prospect of spending another minute in something very like that was not appealing. 0 -

A lot of people in our neck of the woods would wear a wide white belt and white loafers which would go with any color leisure suit. And those silky shirts with foot long collars were really nifty. 0 -

When bell bottom pants were in vogue, platform shoes were hot in also. We received a call from my brother in law, asking for help. He lost his balance and twisted his ankle. He wanted us to pick him up because he couldn't drive home. Ha! What a goof. 0 -

My mother made all three of us boys a leisure suit. Mine was pale green. I wore it once to have my picture taken with my brothers in our suits. I haven't seen it since then. I have no idea what happened to it, nor do I care. 0
