nicknames
My wife's cousin was just buried yesterday. I worked with him as well for 10 years at a paper mill. Truly a great man. RIP Kieth
He was a combat vet with the Americal Div. in Viet Nam in the later 60's. He came back with the nickname of Spider. No one in the family will tell me the reason, says it's war related.
Any vets out there that can shed some light on this for me ? Totally for my own knowledge.

could mean about anything from him simply being afraid of spiders, to having knack of knowing when ambush was coming, enemy camoflaged foxholes were sometimes called spider holes, and their may be more reasons only those in platoon knew. did family not know? or just not want to talk about it??

Don't know about the zippo. I believe his sisters know the answer, they just won't talk about it.

the moderator "spider" on here has posted his brother gave him the name . he played drums and his brother said he was so fast looked like a spider with 8 arms so it stuck . he and his brother were in the military
I apologize if wrong what I remember of the question I ask him several years ago I will guess he will see the heading and add in to the post I remember a bit more about it and his story but will leave that to spider

Yes he was slender about 5' 8". Spider holes could very well be the answer. Do know he was in some "hot" areas.

I actually know/knew three Spiders. All 3 were kinda wiry and could work in tight spaces.
One Spider’s last name was Webb, so....
